Feminism(s) and Rhetoric(s) Conference 2007 (Discourse Chronicle)

[Elizabeth and I returned from our first trip together last night and we both agreed that traveling together is best. We witnessed an unusually high number of vagrants or scammers in Little Rock, AR, but nevertheless, we still experienced a great vacation. Here are some highlights from our trip:

Day 0

  • Elizabeth drove my 2000 Chevy Monte Carlo SS (Nobody else ever drove my car before)

  • We learned how geographically challenged I am (Elizabeth asked me to find Indiana on an Ohio-West Virginia map)

Day 1

  • Elizabeth and I showed support toward our BGSU colleagues Ann-Gee Lee and Kang Sun along with my Texas A&M University MA committee chair Dr. C. Jan Swearingen at an early morning session

  • I learned that some universities and other smaller institutions are unaware about the Human Studies Review Board

Day 2

  • I watched Elizabeth become an impromptu panel chair and present her paper

  • I asked a good question to a fellow presenter on Elizabeth’s panel

  • I attended a reception at the Clinton Presidential Center with Elizabeth

Day 3

  • I participated in an interesting open-ended discussion about comics and graphic novel love scenes

  • I received some insight on potential new projects from listening to unrelated presentations

  • Elizabeth and I found a Harley-Davidson store for us to pick up a T-shirt for my Dad, but it was closed once we arrived

Our vacation may be over for now, but travels are only beginning for Elizabeth and I. Our next trip will hopefully be San Francisco, CA for the National Popular Culture Association Conference 2008 and then New Orleans, LA for the CCCC Conference 2008 in March. BK]

So you’ll be at the 4Cs? Great! I’m planning to be there, too.

Yes, Elizabeth is doing a workshop and her panel presentation acceptance yesterday. Elizabeth’s work is paying off after several attempts in previous years to present at 4Cs and I am happy for her. I will look forward to finally catching up with one of my college mentors and friend!

You know, you forgot to mention the time I almost let us run out of gas in the middle of Indiana. Oops! Funny thing is, I had even said earlier that I might do that. Totally unintentional!

I usually edit stories for potentially embarrassing moments (unless those instances happen to me), but in that case, I knew my car would alert us before running on fumes =)
