A recent expedition to the Twin Cities uncovered this 8-man reggae band. Irie Sol is a tight unit with a live show that will blow your joints out. Their horn section is D-Nice… takin’ out suckas and you don’t know how they did it. It’s great to see Joel’s face again. He and I were working at UW-EC late one night, around 11pm, when I realized I had finally — FINALLY — finished my dissertation.
I still needed to write an introduction and transitions, but that night when I finished a big item on my “to do” list, and went to look up the next one, and saw there was no next item, I was stunned… I told Joel that I thought I had just finished my dissertation.
He chauffeured me around campus in his car, with the windows rolled down and the Halleluia Chorus blasting on the stereo. I’ll never forget that.
Dennis, I remember you and Joel telling me that story at different times. I never forget about it, either. I wonder what I will do when my time comes.
