BGSU Firelands and University of Findlay Announce 2+4 Pharmacy Program
September 21, 2016 | Press Release | Leave a Comment
Through a partnership between Bowling Green State University Firelands College and the University of Findlay, area students will have the opportunity to pursue a Doctor of Pharmacy degree while taking the initial coursework on the BGSU Firelands campus.
The Early Assurance Program enables at least five qualifying BGSU Firelands students each year to complete the first two years of the University of Findlay’s Doctor of Pharmacy Program at BGSU Firelands, and be guaranteed acceptance into the professional phase of Findlay’s College of Pharmacy as a junior.
Students will complete general education and basic science coursework on the BGSU Firelands campus in the newly constructed Allied Health & Sciences expansion. The remaining four years of the program would be completed on the University of Findlay campus.
In addition to the cost savings associated with attending classes at BGSU Firelands, students would also earn an Associate of Science from BGSU after successful completion of the first two years of the program.
“The partnership provides a unique opportunity for our students and we are excited to offer a direct path into Findlay’s highly-competitive Doctor of Pharmacy Program,” said Dr. Andy Kurtz, dean of BGSU Firelands. “Employment in the field of health care is growing faster than any other industry and the new collaboration between our two universities will prepare students for successful careers in that growing sector.”
Once at the University of Findlay, students will complete an additional three years of coursework, clinical research, and a final year of on-site clinical rotations, ultimately graduating with a Doctorate of Pharmacy from Findlay.
“We are extremely pleased to partner with BGSU Firelands to provide their high-quality students with this opportunity,” said Debra Parker, Pharm.D., dean of Findlay’s College of Pharmacy. “I am confident that the strong science foundation provided at BGSU Firelands will be an excellent steppingstone toward a successful career in pharmacy. This partnership truly meets the needs of the aspiring health care professional and allows for a smooth transition for students on their way to achieving their goals.”
