Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Nicki Jo Chavarria of Huron has received the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Chavarria will receive $1,920 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This scholarship is funded through an endowment given to BGSU Firelands by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The Hearst Foundation was established in the mid 1940s by publisher and philanthropist William Randolph Hearst. The Foundation is an independent, private philanthropy operating separately from the Hearst Corporation. The charitable goals of the Foundation reflects the philanthropic interests of Hearst; education, health, human service, and culture. Academically qualified students with financial need are given special consideration for this award.

Chavarria is a 1996 graduate of Sandusky High School.

She is a junior majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List. While in school she has been active with the Humanitarian Organization for Peace through Education Club and she volunteers with Care and Share.

She is the daughter of Francisco and Dottie Chavarria.

Milan resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Justin Michael Cooley of Milan has received the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Cooley will receive $1,920 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Cooley is a 2013 graduate of Edison High School where he was active in French Honor Society, National Honor Society, Buckeye Boys State, marching band, concert band, show choir, concert choir, Drama Club, Math Club, French Club, Speech and Debate, Friends of Rachel, Band Council, and Choir Council. While in high school he earned several honors including an accolades diploma, honor cords for music, and he was a Five-Star Thespian.

He is a freshman at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of Billy Cooley and Kim Barman.

She was inducted into the National Technical Honor Society and she graduated in the top 10 percent of her class.

She is a freshman at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Mike Dillender and Tracy Maloney.

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Angelita Nicole Gonzalez of Bellevue has received the Sandusky Knights of Columbus (Third and Fourth Degrees), Firelands Shrine Club, and Singara Grotto Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Gonzalez will receive $471 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This endowed scholarship is available to graduates from Erie County and Norwalk, St. Paul, Bellevue, or Monroeville high schools. The Sandusky Knights of Columbus (Third and Fourth Degrees), Firelands Shrine Club, and Singara Grotto funded the first scholarship ever awarded at BGSU Firelands and in 2000 these organizations endowed the scholarship so that it will continue in perpetuity.

Gonzalez is a 2012 graduate of Bellevue High School.

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Reynaldo and Elizabeth Gonzalez of Bellevue.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Brianna Lynn Trent of Sandusky has received the Sandusky Knights of Columbus (Third and Fourth Degrees), Firelands Shrine Club, and Singara Grotto Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Trent will receive $471 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This endowed scholarship is available to graduates from Erie County and Norwalk, St. Paul, Bellevue, or Monroeville high schools. The Sandusky Knights of Columbus (Third and Fourth Degrees), Firelands Shrine Club, and Singara Grotto funded the first scholarship ever awarded at BGSU Firelands and in 2000 these organizations endowed the scholarship so that it will continue in perpetuity.

Trent is a 2010 graduate of Perkins High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society, varsity track, varsity cheerleading, and varsity golf.

She is a junior majoring in diagnostic medical sonography at BGSU Firelands.

Collins resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Casey Jordan Molesky of Collins has received the Laura C. Keller Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Molesky will receive $881 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Laura Keller received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bowling Green State University in education. During her teaching career, she taught pre-school, kindergarten, grades 1 through 8 and served as an assistant college administrator. She currently is involved in organizations centered on improving education both domestically and internationally. She continues to be active in the BGSU President’s Club and the BGSU President’s Club Advisory Committee. This scholarship was established to promote quality education and to increase the significant influence of teachers in today’s society. This scholarship is available to a continuing student. The recipient must possess a 3.3 GPA , be pursuing a major in the college of education and human development, and demonstrate leadership skills as exhibited by past or current extracurricular, civic, or work involvement.

Molesky is a 2010 graduate of Western Reserve High School.

She is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and she is active with the Firelands Ohio Student Education Association. She recently earned the Award for Excellence for the Praxis II Elementary Content Knowledge Test. In her freetime, Molesky is active with the Western Reserve Future Farmers of Aamerica Alumni, the Sandusky YMCA basketball league and a softball league in Norwalk.

She is the daughter of Tim and Joni Molesky of Collins.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Lynn E. Joseph of Sandusky has received the Richard P. “Dick” Smith Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Joseph will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This award is funded through an endowment by Dick and Connie Smith in recognition of the special challenges adult learners overcome while pursuing their higher education goals. The scholarship is available to nontraditional students who have completed their first year of study at BGSU Firelands. Financial need is a factor.

Joseph is a 1986 graduate of Eastwood High School.

He is a sophomore majoring in engineering at BGSU Firelands.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Tiffany Marie Taylor of Norwalk has received the Leon Cross Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Taylor will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This award is available to students who reside in Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties and are majoring in biological or physical science. Both full- and part-time students are eligible to receive this book scholarship.

Taylor is a 2010 graduate of Western Reserve High School.

She is a sophomore majoring in biology at BGSU Firelands where she has been active in the Science and Environmental Club.

She is the daughter of David and Kimberly Taylor of Norwalk.

Jacksonville resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Matthew H. Davidson of Jacksonville, Texas has received the Clarissa Ann Givens Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Davidson will receive $1,384 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Clarissa Givens, a Bowling Green State University student. This award is available to both full- and part-time students.

Davidson is a 1998 graduate of Sandusky High School.

He is a senior majoring in physical therapy at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.
