Monroeville resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Abby Therese Swanson of Monroeville has received the BGSU Firelands Advisory Board Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Swanson will receive $1,279 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This scholarship is used by the Director of enrollment management and student retention services to recruit a high school student who has demonstrated a high level of academic achievement through at least six semesters of high school work. The recipient must have at least a cumulative 3.5 GPA, 25 ACT score or 1050 SAT score, demonstrate a history of involvement in school or community activities, and enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours of coursework for each semester in which the award is in effect.

Swanson is a 2013 graduate of Monroeville High School where she achieved high honors and was a Distinguished Scholar.

She is a sophomore majoring in psychology at BGSU Firelands.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Theodore S. Vinicky of Huron has received the Lary and Carlleen Scott Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Vinicky will receive $1,418 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This scholarship was funded by the generosity of Lary and Carlleen Scott to honor Lary’s father, Wallace A. Scott, a highly respected educator who started his teaching career in Rushville, Ohio. While there, he coached the small town basketball team to a state championship. After leaving Rushville, he taught science and physical education at Elliot Junior High School in Cleveland. During the summer, he was the director of the Bedford city summer recreation program. In his spare time, he was a lifeguard and worked for the Cleveland Browns handling the yard line markers during the NFL season. Recipients of this award must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Financial need is a primary consideration and preference will be given to veterans.

Vinicky is a 2008 graduate of St. Edward High School.

He is a junior majoring in physical therapy at BGSU Firelands.

New London resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Janessa P. Kipp of New London has received the Lary and Carlleen Scott Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Kipp will receive $1,418 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This scholarship was funded by the generosity of Lary and Carlleen Scott to honor Lary’s father, Wallace A. Scott, a highly respected educator who started his teaching career in Rushville, Ohio. She is a freshman majoring in business management at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Jessica Kipp of New London.

Huron, Ohio – Elizabeth Ann Case of Norwalk has received the Bookstore Book Loan to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Case will receive course materials for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Each academic year, the BGSU University Bookstore provides course materials in the form of book loan awards to qualified students at BGSU Firelands.

Case is a 2013 graduate of Norwalk High School where she received a Good Citizenship Award, a varsity letter for choir, and a Key Club Award. While in high school she was active in Key Club, concert choir, select choir and musical productions.

She is a freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Kathleen Case of Norwalk.

Port Clinton resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio –Caly Anne Laurents of Port Clinton has received the Student Government Scholarship at Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Laurents will receive $1,713 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This award is available to students with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better in college or a “B” average or better in high school. Financial need is a factor.

Laurents is a 2007 graduate of Port Clinton High School.

She is a senior majoring in visual communication technology at BGSU Firelands where she received the Visual Communication Creativity Award and she was inducted into the Society of the Flame. While in college she has been an active member of the Visual Communication Technology Organization.

She is married to Joe Simko and she is the daughter of Victoria Laurents of Port Clinton.

Huron, Ohio –Brandy Zankel of Sandusky has received the Margaret J. Linz Legacy Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Zankel will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This scholarship was established to memorialize Margaret J. Linz by recognizing student achievement and enhancing the academic mission of BGSU Firelands. This award is available to non-traditional students majoring in education with a junior class standing or higher who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

Zankel is a 1997 graduate of South Fayette High School.

Zankel is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she is a member of the Firelands Chapter of the Ohio Student Education Association.

She is the daughter of Paul and Debra Zankel.

Brown is a 2013 graduate of New London High School where she was on the High Honor Roll, graduated with honors and received the Firelands All Academic Award all four years.
