Collins resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Kierston Renee Rospert of Collins has received the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $1,952 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This scholarship is funded through an endowment given to BGSU Firelands by The Hearst Foundations. The Foundations were established in the mid-1940s by publisher and philanthropist William Randolph Hearst. The Hearst Foundations are an independent, private philanthropy operating separately from the Hearst Corporation. The charitable goals of the Foundations reflect the philanthropic interests of Mr. Hearst: Education, health, social service, and culture. Academically qualified students with financial need are given special consideration for this award.

Rospert is a junior majoring in communications at BGSU Firelands where she currently serves as the president of the BGSU Firelands Acapella Chorus and vice-president of the Student Theatre Guild.

She is the daughter of Delaina and Dennis Rospert of Collins.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Alyssa Lynn Lombardy of Sandusky has received the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $1,952 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Monroeville resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Daniel Stephen Littlejohn of Monroeville has received the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. He will receive $1,952 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Huron, Ohio – Courtney Allison Sharpe of Sandusky has received the Sidney Frohman Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. She will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This scholarship is available to students who are graduates of Erie County high schools and who are enrolled full time.

Sharpe is a 2016 graduate of Perkins High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a drum major in the marching band where she received an Outstanding Music Award. She was also in concert band, wind ensemble, pep band, drama club, tennis, and was a co-captain in cheerleading.

She is a freshman at BGSU Firelands and she is majoring in music education.

She is the daughter of Kayleen and Robert Sharpe of Sandusky.

This scholarship is available to students who are graduates of Erie County high schools and who are enrolled full time.

Dawkins is a 2016 graduate of Huron High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and received a Diploma of Distinction. She received the Family and Consumer Science Honors Chord, an Honors English Chord, and Fine Art Honors Chord.

She is a freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Nancy and Kevin Dawkins of Huron.

Milan resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Jacob Elliott Forren of Milan has received the Shelley Lynn Roesch Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. He will receive $961 towards tuition for the 2016-2017 academic year.

This endowed award was established in 2010 by Shelley Roesch’s father, Wayne Roesch of Milan. Shelley was born in 1981 with cerebral palsy and was challenged by autism and seizures. She and her father created special memories visiting the grounds of BGSU Firelands where her father received both his associate and bachelor’s degrees. Shelley passed away in 2009 at the age of 28. The recipient of this award must be, or plan to be, a part-time student pursuing a degree at BGSU Firelands. Preference is given to a student who is planning to teach in the field of special education or a related field, or a student who is identified as a special needs individual.

Forren is a 2009 graduate of Edison High School where he was on the Dean’s List. He was a member of French Club and the French Honor Society. He had perfect attendance throughout all of high school, and went on to graduate with honors.

He is a junior majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of Melanie and Kenneth Forren of Milan.
