Maschari Awarded BGSU Community Service Award

At Bowling Green State University Firelands College’s annual Recognition Program on April 29, Ann Maschari, a Sandusky resident and former Erie County judge, was awarded the 2016 Community Service Award.
The Community Service Award is given to an individual or organization from the community who has, in an extraordinary manner, participated in the growth, development, or promotion of BGSU Firelands and the Firelands community.
A former student at BGSU Firelands, Maschari was nominated for the award in recognition of her contributions to the College’s 50th Anniversary Committee and her commitment to the success of students.
As part of the Committee, Maschari implemented and spearheaded a highly-successful scholarship development initiative. Through her efforts, funds were raised to create more than 60 new scholarships for BGSU Firelands student.
“Ann’s enthusiasm on the committee was inspiring,” said BGSU Firelands Dean Andy Kurtz. “She is a leader in the community and her relationships were instrumental in gaining the support needed for success. Her commitment to BGSU Firelands remains as strong today as it was when she was a student.”
As a student, Maschari was a member of the Society of the Flame, Student Advisory Board, Firebelles singing ensemble, Firecrackers Drill Team, and she received the Special Service Award. Maschari was also a member of Mortar Board and Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Societies.
As an alumna, Maschari has served as chairperson of the area Alumni Chapter, was an adjunct instructor in the BGSU paralegal program, and was the recipient of the BGSU Distinguished Alumnus Award.
“I volunteer today because BGSU Firelands presented me with so many opportunities as a student. I am passionate about the scholarship initiative and I wish that as many prospective students experience the awesome opportunities that exist at BGSU Firelands,” said Maschari.
After graduating from BGSU in 1974, Maschari earned a doctorate in jurisprudence from the University of Toledo College of Law. She is currently a practicing attorney and has enjoyed a long and successful career in the field.
