Collins resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Mikayla Catherine Coe of Collins has received the Balzer-Lockhart Family Firelands Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Coe will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship is available to a full-time student at BGSU Firelands who has demonstrated financial need. The recipient must be in good academic standing in their respective program.

Coe is a 2013 graduate of Norwalk St. Paul High School where she was on the honor roll and involved in varsity softball, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Pep Band. In her free time she was active in Sandusky Youth Elect Service and Willard Youth Elect Service.

She is a sophomore majoring in accounting at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter Stephanie Coe of Collins and the late Kevan Coe.

Lorain resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Kasey Madison Kalb of Lorain has received the Dr. George F. Linn Outstanding Teacher Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Kalb will receive $1,596 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship, in memory of Dr. George F. Linn, prominent educator who taught in Huron and Erie counties, is available to students interested in the teaching profession. This scholarship is awarded to a valedictorian, salutatorian, or like meritorious scholar who expresses an interest in math and science. A recommendation from an area school administrator is required for this scholarship.

Kalb is a 2014 graduate of Lorain High School where she was on the honor roll and involved in Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Winds, Pep Band, Jazz Band, and Orchestra.

She is a freshman majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Matthew Kalb and Fancy Kalb-Perez.

Huron, Ohio – Branden M. Fox of Wakeman has received the Dr. Ronald M. Ruble Theatre Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Fox will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This award is available to full- and part-time students who are actively working in theater technical work and in the Firelands College Theatre and the Caryl Crane Youth Theatre.

Fox is a 2012 graduate of Western Reserve High School.

He is a senior majoring in physical therapy at BGSU Firelands where he has been active with Student Government, Student Theater Guild, and Firelands College Theatre.

He is the son of Robert and Melissa Tinney of Wakeman.

Huron, Ohio – John Eugene Yount of Sandusky has received the Frost-Parker Foundation Scholarship at Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Yount will receive $846 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This endowed award is available to students who are enrolled on either a full- or part-time basis.

Yount is a 2006 graduate of Margaretta High School.

He is a sophomore majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

He lives in Sandusky with his wife, Jessica Yount, and is the son of John and Angie Yount of Castalia.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Kayla Breann St. John of Norwalk has received the Sandusky Knights of Columbus (Third and Fourth Degrees), Firelands Shrine Club, and Singara Grotto Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. St. John will receive $800 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This endowed scholarship is available to graduates from Erie County and Norwalk, St. Paul, Bellevue, or Monroeville high schools. The Sandusky Knights of Columbus (Third and Fourth Degrees), Firelands Shrine Club, and Singara Grotto funded the first scholarship ever awarded at BGSU Firelands and in 2000 these organizations endowed the scholarship so that it will continue in perpetuity.

St. John is a 2014 graduate of Edison High School where she was on the honor roll and active in National Tech Honors Society, Chargerettes, Spanish Club, Key Club, and SkillsUSA.

She is a freshman majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Melissa Caskey of Norwalk.

Decker is a 2014 graduate of Vermilion High School where she received the Math Department Student of the Year Award and was nominated for National Honors Society.

She is a freshman at BGSU Firelands and plans to earn a degree in actuarial science.

Trent is a 2014 graduate of Perkins High School where he was involved in National Honor Society, Pirate for Peers, Student Council, Aim for Excellence, Relay for Life, varsity soccer, varsity track, and varsity football. While in high school he was named a scholar athlete four times. In his spare time he volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ohio Veterans Home Memorial, Holy Angels Catholic Church Community Thanksgiving Dinner, youth soccer and track camps, and he organized blood drives.

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Maleah Ann Daniel of Bellevue has received the Todd Marshall Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Daniel will receive $802 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

Created by the family of Todd Marshall, who was a lecturer of biology at BGSU Firelands, and funded by his family and friends as well as community members, this scholarship supports a full-time student pursuing an associate or a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and financial need is a consideration.

Daniel is a 2014 graduate of Bellevue High School where she was on the honor roll and involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, Student Council, and Spanish Club. While in high school she earned several awards and honors including the Elk’s Scholar Award, the Scholar Athlete Award, and the Presidential Award for Academic Excellence for volleyball,

She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.
