Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Amy Rose Beier of Norwalk has received the Citizens Banking Company Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Beier will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This award is available to students who are enrolled on either a full- or part-time basis. Students who demonstrate need and reside in the Citizens Banking Company’s marketing area are given special consideration for this award.

Beier is a 2013 graduate of Norwalk High School where she earned varsity letters in soccer, softball, bowling, and academics. While in high school she received several awards and recognitions including Board Resolution-Gold Tassel, Good Citizenship Award, Academic Award, NOL Scholar Athlete, Rotary Citizenship Athlete Award, First Team All District, Honorable Mention All District, Award of Excellence in soccer, Tough Gal Award in soccer, Ohio High School Athletic Association Award of Excellence, Captain’s Award in softball, and Most Valuable Player Award in bowling. In her free time she was active in her church’s youth group and volunteers for Right to Read Week and at Erie Metro Housing Authority offices in Sandusky.

She is a sophomore majoring in criminal justice at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and is a member of the Humanity Organized for Peace through Education Club.

She is the daughter of William Leo and Mary Faye Beier Jr. of Norwalk.

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Kathryn Elizabeth Bailey of Bellevue has received the Dorothy Pickett Walker Memorial Scholarship for Elementary Education Majors Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Bailey will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship, established in 1999, is made possible by a gift from Dorothy’s daughter, Nancy Herl, in memory of her mother. The scholarship is available to a full- or part-time student who has a 3.0 GPA and plans to major in early childhood education. Financial need is also a consideration for this award.

Bailey is a 2011 graduate of Bellevue Senior High School where she maintained honor roll status through high school and was awarded the Elks Award.

She is a junior majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.

Bailey is the spouse of Russell Bailey and daughter of Thomas and Laurie Lepley of Bellevue.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Nicki Jo Chavarria of Huron has received the Esperanza Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Chavarria will receive $75 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This scholarship is available to students of Latino descent who are enrolled in the bachelor of social work program at BGSU Firelands or the Bowling Green campus.

Chavarria is a 1996 graduate of Sandusky High School.

She is a junior majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List, is a member of the Humanitarian Organization for Peace through Education Club, and was an honoree of the BGSU Firelands Champions.

She is the daughter of Francisco and Dottie Chavarria.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Amie L. Smarr of Norwalk has received the Shelley Lynn Rosech Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Smarr will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This endowed award was established in 2010 by Shelley Roesch’s father, Wayne Roesch of Milan. Shelley was born in 1981 with cerebral palsy and was challenged by autism and seizures. She and her father created special memories visiting the grounds of BGSU Firelands where her father received both his associate and bachelor’s degrees. Shelley passed away in 2009 at the age of 28. The recipient of this award must be, or plan to be, a part-time student pursuing a degree at BGSU Firelands. Preference is given to a student who is planning to teach in the field of special education or a related field, or a student who is identified as a special needs individual.

Smarr is a 2014 graduate of New London High School where she she was on the honor roll and was active in varsity cheerleading and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. In her free time she participated in ballet and jazz dance.

She is a freshman majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Scott and Shannon Britt of New London.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Chequoya C. Spearman of Sandusky has received the Student Government Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Spearman will receive $653 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This award is available to students with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better in college or a “B” average or better in high school. Financial need will also be considered.

Spearman is a 2010 graduate of Sandusky High School.

She is a senior majoring in social work at BGSU Firelands where she is a member of the President’s Advisory Council on Diversity and Inclusion.

Vermilion resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Paul A. Schnitzler of Vermilion has received the William J. Parker Family Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Schnitzler will receive $750 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.

This endowed award is variable and the criteria for the award is financial need.

Schnitzler is a 2007 graduate of Vermilion High School where he was on the honor roll.

He is a freshman majoring in computer networking at BGSU Firelands.
