Local residents receive scholarships to attend BGSU Firelands

Wakeman resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Branden M. Fox of Wakeman has received the Caryl Crane Scholarship for the Performing Arts to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Fox will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.
This award is available to a full-time student who resides in Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties and who is actively involved or enrolled in theatre arts classes.
Fox is a 2012 graduate of Western Reserve High School.
He is a senior majoring in physical therapy at BGSU Firelands where he has been active with Student Government, Student Theater Guild, and Firelands College Theatre.
He is the son of Robert and Melissa Tinney of Wakeman.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Valerie C. Tyree of Huron has received the Huron Rotary Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Tyree will receive $750 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Applicants must be graduates, or candidates for graduation from Huron High School, St. Mary’s Central Catholic, or EHOVE and they must reside in the Huron City School District. The recipient must have community service hours.
Tyree is a 2014 graduate of Huron High School where she earned an Honors Diploma with Distinction and received the Marching Band Award.
She is a freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Gregory Z. and Donna J. Stone of Huron.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Donna Rae Kuhlman of Norwalk has received the Janet M. Harst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Kuhlman will receive $1,200 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Established by Janet M. Harst, former adjunct instructor and BGSU Firelands Development Board member, this scholarship is available to full- and part-time students with a 3.0 GPA or better.
Kuhlman is a 2013 graduate of Norwalk St. Paul High School where she was a class officer and active in prom committee, National Honor Society, Make a Difference Day and efforts for a blood drive.
She is a sophomore majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.
She is the daughter of Donald and Sue Kuhlman of Norwalk.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Elyssa Anne Sherer of Huron has received the Mary L. Fenker Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Sherer will receive $600 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.
This scholarship, given by a generous donation from Mary L. Fenker of Sandusky, is available to full- and part-time students from Erie County. Recipients must major in nursing or early childhood education, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. Community and school involvement is also considered.
Sherer is a 2012 graduate of Huron High School where she received the Character Counts Award.
She is a junior majoring in inclusive early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Rowdy and Jennifer Sherer of Huron.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Jessica Lynn Didion of Sandusky has received the Mary Printy Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Didion will receive $704 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.
This endowed scholarship is available to students majoring in nursing. Special consideration is given to adult learners who plan to pursue or are presently active in careers in maternity nursing.
Didion is a 2001 graduate of Perkins High School where she earned the Attendance Award. After high school she earned a nursing degree and has been employed as a registered nurse.
She is a junior earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing at BGSU Firelands.
She is married to Frank Didion of Sandusky and is the daughter of Gary and Lisa Gast of Sandusky.

Castalia resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Samuel William Kuns of Castalia has received the Murray and Murray Charitable Foundation Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Kuns will receive $2,000 towards tuition for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Established in 2007 by the Murray and Murray Foundation, this award is available to residents of Erie County with preference given to graduates of an Erie County high school. Recipients must have a 3.0 GPA, show financial need, and demonstrate contributions to school or community through organized or independent efforts.
Kuns is a 2014 graduate of Margaretta High School where he maintained perfect attendance for two years, was on honor roll throughout school, and received Student of the Month from both Citizens Bank and Sandusky Rotary in 2014. While in high school he was active in National Honor Society, Chess Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions.
He is a freshman majoring in science at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Brian L. and Tammy Kuns of Castalia.
