Huron, OH – United States Representative Marcy Kaptur (OH-9) will hold an open Community Forum on Workforce Development and Education, on Tuesday, April 22 from 5-7 p.m. in the Cedar Point Center Auditorium at Bowling Green State University Firelands College, One University Drive, Huron, Ohio 44839.
Joined with regional workforce and economic development specialists and BGSU Firelands leadership, Congresswoman Kaptur seeks to answer President Obama’s call for 2014 to be a “year of action.”
“This spring, Erie County will graduate another class of young men and women filled with dreams and aspirations – and as public servants and leaders within the higher education community, it is our responsibility to ensure that our graduates have every available resource they need to turn their dreams into reality,” Kaptur said.
Statistics show that education is the key to success in today’s global economy – learning a skilled trade or having an associates or bachelor’s degree is not only more important today than ever before, but has shown to more than double one’s lifetime earnings.
“On average a typical college student graduates with more than $26,000 in student loan debt. This is an underlining statistic that not only puts an exhaustive burden on our workforce, but undeniably hampers job growth and our economy,” Kaptur said. “Linking the students in our communities to resources and skills needed to meet the demands of our growing economy is critical to the future of Erie County, but doing it in a way that does not stymie job growth or unnecessarily burden our workforce with a lifetime of debt, is equally as important.”
This discussion looks to link the jobs skills and demands of tomorrow to the growing workforce of today. The event is free and open to the public.
