Huron, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Firelands College Psychology Professor Dr. Christopher Mruk has recently published the fourth edition of his popular academic text on self-esteem.  “Self-Esteem and Positive Psychology: Research, Theory, and Practice” has been utilized by colleges across the county and internationally.  It has also been translated in Spanish.

According to the publishing company, Springer Publishing Company, New York, “the new edition is the most comprehensive text available on the theories, research findings, and practice implications of self-esteem.  It represents a major shift in our contemporary understanding of self-esteem and positive psychology.”

The book has been thoroughly updated to integrate positive psychology themes throughout and explain how self-esteem enhancement interventions fit into evidence-based practice.  It provides scholars, clinicians, and students with both an extensive overview of research and with Mruk’s often-cited theoretical framework for self-esteem.  It also features Mruk’s noted Competence and Worthiness Training program for enhancing self-esteem.

Mruk has been teaching at BGSU Firelands since 1984 and has received the college’s Distinguished Teaching and Distinguished Scholarship awards. His publications include two books and more than two dozen refereed articles or book chapters in the areas of clinical and positive psychology.

Mruk is also an associate editor of “The Humanistic Psychologistand is a consulting psychologist for the Firelands Regional Medical Center.
