Collins resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Casey Jordan Molesky of Collins has received the Janet M. Harst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Molesky will receive $1,200 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Established by Janet Harst, adjunct instructor and BGSU Firelands Development Board member, this award is available to full-time or part-time students with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Molesky is a 2010 graduate of Western Reserve High School where she played basketball and softball.  While in high school she was involved with Huron County Junior Fair Board and 4-H.

She is a sophomore majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she was on the Dean’s List.

She is the daughter of Tim and Joni Molesky of Collins.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Amanda Leigh Wahl of Sandusky has received the Laura C. Keller Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Wahl will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Laura Keller received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Bowling Green State University in education. During her teaching career, she taught pre-school, kindergarten, grades one through eight and served as an assistant college administrator. She currently is involved in organizations centered on improving education both domestically and internationally. She continues to be active in the President’s Club and the President’s Club Advisory Committee. This scholarship was established to promote quality education and to increase the significant influence of teachers in today’s society. This scholarship is available to a continuing student. The recipient must possess a 3.3 GPA , be pursuing a major in the college of education and human development, and demonstrate leadership skills as exhibited by past or current extracurricular, civic, or work involvement.

Wahl is a 2008 graduate of Margaretta High School. She has been involved with Cloth-a-Child, Care and Share, and canned food drives. She has also been a Head Start volunteer.

She is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she has made the Dean’s list for three semesters.

She is the daughter of James and Joni Wahl of Sandusky.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Lisa Renee Harkey of Huron has received the Leon and Susan Cross Book Award to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Harkey will receive $500 towards textbooks for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This award is available to students who reside in Erie, Huron, or Ottawa counties and are majoring in biological or physical science.

Harkey is a 2011 graduate of Huron High School where she participated in band.

She is a freshman majoring in pre-medicine at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Shannon and Victoria Baatz-Gibbs of Huron.

Huron, Ohio – Michael Patrick Holt of Huron has received the Robert E. Harned Art Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Holt will receive $762 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This endowed scholarship will be awarded to a student in the art department at BGSU Firelands.

Holt is a 1992 graduate of Margaretta High School where he received the Achievement in Art Award and the Theatre Participation Award.

He is a junior majoring in liberal studies at BGSU Firelands where he is involved with Firelands College Theatre and the Speech Activities Organization-Theatre.

He is the son of Patrick Holt and Joyce Hemmer.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Nykkytta Rose Mankin of Sandusky has received the Shelley Lynn Roesch Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Mankin will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This endowed award was established in 2010 by Shelley Roesch’s father, Wayne Roesch of Milan. Shelley was born in 1981 with cerebral palsy and was challenged by autism and seizures. She and her father created special memories visiting the grounds of BGSU Firelands where her father received both his associate and bachelor’s degrees. Shelley passed away in 2009 at the age of 28. The recipient of this award must be, or plan to be, a part-time student pursuing a degree at BGSU Firelands. Preference is given to a student who is planning to teach in the field of special education or a related field, or a student who is identified as a special needs individual.

Mankin is a 2007 graduate of Edison High School.

She is majoring in special education at BGSU Firelands.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio– Christina Downey of Norwalk has received the William Randolph Hearst Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College during the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship is funded through an endowment given to BGSU Firelands by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The Hearst Foundations were established in the mid 1940s by publisher and philanthropist William Randolph Hearst. The foundations are independent, private philanthropies operating separately from the Hearst Corporation. The charitable goals of the foundations reflect the philanthropic interests of Hearst; education, health, human service and culture. Academically qualified and needy students are given special consideration for this award.

Downey is a 1994 graduate of Brandywine High School, Niles, Mich. She was awarded the President’s Award for AA in human services.

She is a junior majoring in psychology at BGSU Firelands where she has been involved with the Writing Lab.

She is married to Kenneth Downey and is the daughter of Marcia White.

Green is a 2008 graduate of Bellevue High School where she was named salutatorian and was on the Distinguished Honor Roll. She received the Citizenship Award, Governor’s Show Award, Certificate of Achievement, Presidential Award, Most Studious Senior, and Academic Award. She was also involved with National Honor Society, Poetry Club, French Club, and was president and historian of the Marine Club.

She is a junior majoring in liberal studies at BGSU Firelands where she is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta.

She is the daughter of Keith and Tina Green of Bellevue.
