Local students receive scholarships to attend BGSU Firelands

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Blythe Echo Caldwell of Norwalk has received the BGSU Firelands Campus Direct Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Caldwell will receive $2,500 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
An anonymous donor established the BGSU Firelands Campus Direct Scholarship to support students attending BGSU Firelands and pursuing a degree in the field of nursing or allied health.
Caldwell is a 2004 graduate of Clear Fork High School.
She is a junior majoring in microbiology at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List.
She is the daughter of Robert Caldwell and Clara Bayer.

Port Clinton resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Joseph Michael Ihnat of Port Clinton has received the BGSU Firelands Campus Direct Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Ihnat will receive $2,500 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
An anonymous donor established the BGSU Firelands Campus Direct Scholarships to support students attending BGSU Firelands and pursuing a degree in the field of nursing or allied health.
Ihnat is a 2009 graduate of Danbury High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society, was involved with Student Council, band, Art Club, Foreign Language Club, was a Phi Eta Sigma member, and was an Alpha Lambda Delta member. He was also on the High Honor Roll all four years, was in Ottawa County Top 10, earned math and art awards, was elected Homecoming King and Prom King, and had a 4.0 GPA.
He is a junior majoring in radiology technology at BGSU Firelands.
He is the son of Joseph and Karen Ihnat of Port Clinton.

Castalia resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Elizabeth Ann Ballard of Castalia has received the BGSU Firelands Campus Direct Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Ballard will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
An anonymous donor established the BGSU Firelands Campus Direct Scholarships to support students attending BGSU Firelands and pursuing a degree in the field of nursing or allied health.
Ballard is a 2000 graduate of Margaretta High School where she was inducted into the National Honor Society. She was active in the Happy-Go Lucky Club and 4H, where she was a member and an advisor.
She is a junior majoring in radiologic technology at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Gregory and Karen Keller of Sandusky.

Huron, Ohio – Ashley Marie Koch of Bellevue has received the BGSU Firelands Campus Direct Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Koch will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Koch is a 2007 graduate of Norwalk High School.
She is a senior majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands where she earned an associate of applied science degree in nursing in May 2011.
She is the wife of Andrew Koch of Bellevue and is the daughter of Robin and Alisa Schaffer of Norwalk.

Huron resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Lisa Renee Harkey of Huron has received the Carl R. and Elizabeth Swanbeck Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Harkey will receive $422 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Established by family, friends, and admirers of the late Swanbecks, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Huron High School.
Harkey is a 2011 graduate of Huron High School.
She is a freshman majoring in pre-medicine at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Donald Harkey and Victoria Baatz-Gibbs of Huron.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Leah Danielle Boucher of Norwalk has received the Dr. Judith A. Somers Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Boucher will receive a contribution towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Judith A. Schroeder Sommers established this fund to support a student from Huron County. Preference is given to a student from Norwalk High School majoring in education. The recipient must be at least a sophomore and maintain at least 3.0 GPA.
Boucher is a 2007 graduate of Norwalk High School.
She is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she was on the Dean’s List.
She is the daughter of Rev. Roger Boucher and Fran Boucher of Norwalk.

Collins resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Casey Jordan Molesky of Collins has received the Grace L. Keller Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Molesky will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
Grace Keller has always valued education. She is the mother of six grown children, most of whom received both their undergraduate and graduate degrees. She recognizes the crucial and valuable role that BGSU Firelands holds in the community. This scholarship is available to a continuing student at BGSU Firelands. The recipient must possess a minimum 3.3 GPA and be studying in the college of education and human development.
Molesky is a 2010 graduate of Western Reserve High School where she was involved with Huron County Junior Fair Board, 4-H, and played basketball and softball.
She is a sophomore majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.
She is the daughter of Tim and Joni Molesky of Collins.

Lorain resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Roxanne Marie Howman of Lorain has received the Mruk Family Scholarship for Students In Need to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Howman will receive $773 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
This award is available to part-time students who experience a sudden need that may jeopardize their ability to continue their education for spring semester.
Howman is a 1984 graduate of Vermilion High School.
She is a junior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands where she was on the Dean’s List and received the Rudinger Foundation Creative Arts Award.
She is the daughter of Harry and Sandra Stoneking.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands
Huron, Ohio – Kenneth A. Smith of Norwalk has received the Richard P. “Dick” Smith Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Smith will receive $1,000 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.
This award is funded through an endowment by Dick and Connie Smith in recognition of the special challenges adult learners overcome while pursuing their higher education goals. The scholarship is available to nontraditional students who have completed their first year of study at BGSU Firelands.
Kenneth Smith is a 2003 graduate of St. Paul High School where he was awarded the Leadership by Example Award, the Business Award, and he was involved in 4-H.
He is a senior majoring in business at BGSU Firelands where he is involved with the Science & Environmental Club and Business Club.
He is married to Stephanie Smith and he is the son of Roger Smith and Diane Tuttle of Norwalk.
