Huron, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Firelands College will host its annual Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math conference designed for junior high school girls.

On Friday, Nov. 18, more than 100 students in 7th and 8th grades will participate in the day-long conference which introduces girls to the traditionally male-dominated fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Students will attend from Adams Junior High School, Briar Middle School, Danbury Middle School, Lakeside-Marblehead, Sandusky Central Catholic and Willard Middle School.

Students who attend the annual conference interact with professional women such as scientists, doctors, computer and technology workers, environmentalists, engineers, and mathematicians.

The 2011 Women in STEM conference will feature keynote speaker Gail Bossert Klink, an award winning teacher, author, and NASA Ambassador.  Klink will share life lessons from her experiences on the shuttle launch pads to the deserts of Saudi Arabia.

The girls will also participate in several hands-on workshops presented by BGSU Firelands’ faculty, NASA Plum Brook, and Imagination Station.

North Point Educational Services Center is a generous supporter of BGSU Firelands’ Women in STEM conference
