Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Randel H. Porter of Sandusky has received the BGSU Firelands Faculty and Staff Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Porter will receive $1,724 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Porter is a 1976 graduate of Edison High School.

He is a junior majoring in psychology at BGSU Firelands.

Monroeville resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Hallie Marie Swanson of Monroeville has received the Clarissa Ann Givens Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Swanson will receive $1,337 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Clarissa Givens, a Bowling Green State University student.

Swanson is a 2011 graduate of Monroeville High School where she received a citizenship award, an award of merit, high honors, and the President’s Award of Academic Excellence. She particpated in the National Honor Society, French Club, and Art Club.

She is a freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Heidi Swanson of Monroeville.

Bellevue resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Lisa Davidson of Bellevue has received the Edward and Donna (Bender) Hamer Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Davidson will receive $762 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This endowed scholarship was established in 2002 by Donna Hamer. This award is available to a full-time student at BGSU Firelands. School and community activities are a factor for this award.

Davidson is a 1989 graduate of Northland High School.

She is a senior majoring in liberal studies at BGSU Firelands where she was on the Dean’s List. She is active in the Healthy Lifestyle Fitness Club and was a V-Day volunteer.

She is the daughter of Joe Bader and Kathy Wright.

Marblehead resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Jacob David Burns of Marblehead has received the Health Careers Unlimited Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Burns will receive $300 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This award, sponsored by the Health Careers Unlimited organization, is available to a sophomore majoring in a health career field at BGSU Firelands. Recipients must have a “B” average and be from Erie, Ottawa, Sandusky, Huron, or Seneca counties.

Burns is a 2009 graduate of Danbury High School where he was involved in football, basketball, baseball, and Key Club.

He is a junior majoring in radiologic technology at BGSU Firelands.

He is the son of David and Stephanie Burns of Marblehead.

Huron, Ohio – Karen Lynn Walker of Norwalk has received the Health Careers Unlimited Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Walker will receive $300 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, Ohio – Taylor Nicole Fitzwater of Norwalk has received the James E. Cole Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Fitzwater will receive $1,330 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship is available to high school seniors from Norwalk or St. Paul high schools. High school academic achievement plus potential for scholarly success in college are primary considerations for this scholarship.

Fitzwater is a 2011 graduate of Norwalk High School where she participated in National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and was Lab Student of the Year. She also received a perfect attendence award, a merit award, and she was on the honor roll.

 She is a freshman majoring in nursing at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of David and Lori Smith of Norwalk.
