Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, O. – Victoria Louise Larrick of Sandusky has received the Buckeye CableSystem Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Larrick will receive $913 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This endowed scholarship is available to students who reside in Erie County.

Larrick is a 1974 graduate of Perkins High School where she was elected Homecoming Queen and Perkins Fire Queen. While in high school she was active in cheerleading, serving as the captain for two years and winning awards. She also won awards for involvement and leadership. In her personal life she has been an interpreter for the deaf, an advisor for cheerleading mat maids at Indiana School for the Deaf, and a member of professional women’s associations.

She is a freshman majoring in education at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of James Larrick of Sandusky.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, O. – James Frederick Pankow of Sandusky has received the Dr. Ken Hille Memorial Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Pankow will receive $885 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Ken Hille, professor of biology at BGSU Firelands. Students majoring in an area of the biological sciences are eligible. A 3.0 grade point average or better is required.      

Pankow is a 2009 graduate of Sandusky High School where he was inducted into the National Honor Society. He earned an honors diploma and two varsity academic awards. While in high school he participated in track and wrestling. Awards that he won include four years of perfect attendance, the Erie County Chamber of Commerce Award of Achievement, scholastic art show awards, a college prep award of merit, a principal’s award, and the Sandusky High School Service Award.

He is a junior majoring in microbiology at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.

He is the son of Mark and Deborah Pankow of Sandusky.

Norwalk resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, O. – Alexis R. Van Giesen of Norwalk has received the Huron County Medical Auxiliary Endowment Fund for Health Careers Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Van Giesen will receive $1,206 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship, established by the former Huron County Medical Auxiliary, is awarded to a Huron County resident who is majoring in a health career.

Van Giesen is a 2010 graduate of Norwalk High School where she had perfect attendance, was on the honor roll and principal’s roll and earned awards for art. She is a member of the National Honor Society and S.H.A.D.O.W. She has been a volunteer at Fisher Titus Medical Center and participated in the United Methodist Youth Group.

She is a sophomore majoring in biology at BGSU Firelands.

She is the daughter of Nick and Pam Van Giesen of Norwalk.

Sandusky resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, O. – Brandon Michael Neese of Sandusky has received the Respiratory Care Advisory Board Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Neese will receive $114 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Recipiants of this award must be admitted to the respiratory care program and enrolled in respiratory care courses, be an Ohio resident and have earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher after completing a minimum of 30 semester hours.

Neese is a 2009 graduate of Sandusky Central Catholic High School.

He is a senior majoring in respiratory therapy at BGSU Firelands where he has been on the Dean’s List.

He is the son of Kelli Neese.

Berlin Heights resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, O. – Kaitlyn Marie Davis of Berlin Heights has received the Sandusky Elks Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Davis will receive $500 towards tuition for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship is available to students living in Erie County.

Davis is a 2009 graduate of Edison High School.

She is a junior majoring in visual communication technology at BGSU Firelands where she has been on the Dean’s List and involved in Visual Communications Technology Organinzation, serving as the secretary, and the National Society of Leadership and Success. She received the the Creative Execellence in Visual Media Technology Award from BGSU Firelands and the Excellence in Leadership Award from the National Society of Leadership and Sucess.

She is the daughter of Gene and Lynn Davis of Berlin Heights.

North Ridgeville resident receives scholarship to attend BGSU Firelands

Huron, O. – Cristina Melisa Covarrubias of North Ridgeville has received the Therese and Alonzo Allen Book Scholarship to attend Bowling Green State University Firelands College. Covarrubias will receive $470 towards books for the 2011-2012 academic year.

This scholarship, established in 2002 by Conrad and Deanna Allen, is available to a full-time underrepresented, undergraduate who is majoring in business or education. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required, but preference is given to students with a higher GPA.

Covarrubias is a 2008 graduate of North Ridgeville High School where she earned an honors diploma, an academic recognition award and was named student of the month.

She is a senior majoring in early childhood education at BGSU Firelands.  She has been involved with the BGSU Latino Student Union and the Latino Dance Association.

She is the daughter of Patricio and Wilma Covarrubias of North Ridgeville
