Thursday, August 5th, 2010

For our interview project i decided to interview Sarafio Fontanilla over the phone. He is now a professor at Norfolk State University. He is very good at sculptures and said he was inspired my his college professor. I think it’s really neat that he is a professor now and is trying to inspire kinds into art just like his college professor did to him.

my art work

Monday, August 2nd, 2010

When i found the painting of the “Last supper” by Da Vinci i really wanted to do something fun and different with that had sort of the same meaning to it but drawn a lot differently. What i came up with was animals a “loin” in the middle as the “king” of the jungle..kind of like Jesus and the as desciples i drew other smaller animals gathering around. I wanted to give this a kids book type of feel and when i sent this to you, you completely agreed and told me i should color it to make it better so thats what i did.

” The Last Supper” pt. 2

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

I picked The Last Supper because I feel like it is very important me and to a lot of other people. The Last Supper or Communion is supposed to be observed as a Memorial to our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus instructed his disciples to do this “in remembrance of Me” and thats why it is used as Commumion in most Churches. In my drawling i decided to draw a lion representing “Jesus” or th “king” of his jungle the other smaller animals i drew around the lion represent the “deciples” from “The Last Supper”. I really loved this painting by Da Vinci and thats why i picked to draw from it!

“The Last Supper”

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

I picked Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting. Da Vinci began work on The Last Supper in 1495 and completed it in 1498 it took so long because he didn’t work continously on it. It is now painted it on the back wall of the dining hall at the Dominican convent of Sta Maria delle Grazie in Italy and the art work became an instant famous work.

The original wall painting was made from tempera (egg yolk and vinegar) plus oil painting ON dry plaster. Tempra was something he made up thinking he could use more colors. Unfortunately, Da Venci’s style experiment was a disaster. The paint almost immediately began falling off the plaster due to humidity and after one hear the painting had almost fell off completely.I feel like this painting is very special and thats why i was influenced to draw from it.

Sol Lewitt

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Sol Lewitt was the other artist that i had the pleasure of looking at. Sol Lewitt’s art was very different from other art i have found or ever looked at. His art was mostly of geometric sculptures and funky colorful wall painings. In some of his wall painings he has one figure that stands out. For an example in one wall he had a huge box as the main “figure” that stands out! the bright colors and crazy paintings make his art a lot of fun and very different!

Frida Kahlo

Friday, July 16th, 2010

My Artist that was assigned to me was Frida Kahlo. The first thing i noticed when looking at her act was her bright and vibrant colors that she uses which catches the eye and makes you attracted to it. Everyone of her painting gave me a story or an idea of what the painting meant. Most of what she has painted are self portraits in which i often looked like pain. I really enjoyed looking and learning about Frida Kahlo and her art!!

experience at Sistine Chapel

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Experiencing Sistine Chapel through Second Live was very cool! Looking at all the different pictures and discussing the pictures with you and classmates was fun and helpful. The vocab words you provided for us helped us describe the picture in a different way and break the pictures down that way we look at everything. The art in the Sistine Chapel was amazing and i look forward to enjoying more art.

Class experience

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

This is my first time experiencing a online class. I have been looking over the Second Live website before class and trying to get the hang of it and although i was having a problem figuring it all out i think that class tonight really helped! Although i was having computer problems from the storm i liked the way you communicate with us though IM and voice and that makes it easy to understand you. I also like how we not only communicate with you but our fellow classmates as well. Class was fun and i’m looking forward to next thursdays class.
