Nick Cantrell English 207 Blog

The blogs have been interesting in this course because I have never done a blog before.  They are helpful because I can look back on what I have wrote and remember what we have gone over as a class.  This has been an excellent experience because I now feel comfortable working with blogs and creating my own blog page in the future.

I feel like I have a pretty good handle on the final project at this point.

1.  Should we gear our project toward the type of career that we are looking for?

2  How broad should the project be?  In other words how much detail should be put into it?

3  Should we make our project availible for everyone to see on the internet?

4  Are there any specific details or points you are looking for?

5  Will we be doing a peer review?

When I look back on a particular literacy I have it is interesting because I can see measure how much it has grown.  Its helpful to demonstarte your literacies because a person can find out what there strengths and weaknesses are. Its important to know these type of things because it is likely that future employer will be asking questions like that.

option 3. 

1.  Yes I plan to use my resume that I recently created.  I plan to use this resume because it is geared toward the career that I would really like to have in the future. 

2.  I will most likely use a powerpoint to display my resume.  I feel that this is a good choice because a great deal of information can be shown in this format.

3.  I plan to show my skills and experience in this project.  Since I will be applying for a sales job I plan to show in my project that I am a personable and reliable person.

4.  I think I will be using a powerpoint to help portray who I am as a person.

5.  It will show that I am capable of using powerpoint as well as showing off some of my other skills that I have aquired throughout my life.

6.  How long the the powerpoint should be?

7.  I plan to have a rough draft of my entire project by the 22nd of this month.  I also plan to have my introduction completed by the end of this weekend.

My literacy has changed in that I now know that literacy is much more complex than just having the ability to read and write.  Its clear to me that being literate is many things such as being able to think critically and comprehend what you are reading.  A literate person has many more skills than just having the ability to read and write.

I would like my portfolio to:

1. Have seperate pages for each assignment.

2.  I want my reader to first see my home cite and then have the option to go see my other pages.

3. I want my pages to be visible and standout to anyone who is in my blog.  I would prefer to put my pages on the left hand side.

4.   I think that i will either use powerpoint or traditional writting to introduce myself

I need to improve the clarity of objective.  Its not focused enough on the job that I am applying for.  I also need to have a reference section.  My resume also need to sho more experience and the type of skills that I have to offer to the company.  Using key words that the job posting had will also be something that I need to add into my resume and cover letter.  Overall I think I have a great start, but I do have some adjustments to make.  This peer review gave me some solid feedback.

One of the difficulties that I seem to be having is gearing my resume for the specific job that I want.  It hard to tell what exactly an employer wants to see in a cover letter or resume.  I thnk my doing a little bit of research on the comapany will help me consider what I need to put into my cover letter and/or resume.

Pharmacutical Represntative.  Drug rep,  you basically have your own territory where you sell “clients” doctors your companies products.  This entails wining and dining them while doing a great deal of traveling. 

The companies mandatory qualifications are that you must have a four year degree.  You must also have some sales expereince and have a good personable personality.  Represenatives must be able to communicate effectively with clients as well as reporting back to the company.  The company values leadership, loyalty, and honesty.

A resume is a ussually around one or two pages and highlights your work experience.  It can also highlight any experiences or skills that may be relevant to a certain job.  Resumes are sometimes a first impression of what an employer gets about an individual.  Its important to list prior jobs, volunteer work, and references in a resume.  Good resumes are not ussually put together over night, rather they formed and molded over many years as new experiences happen.
