Blogs were a great way to get ides through to peers, and to the teacher. I thought that blogging helped me in not only this class, but when we were at the hospital for my niece and everyone wanted updates I started a blog for her for family and friends to check daily. This class allowed me to do that. Thanks a lot Blogs!
Because everyone is doing something different for their final project, I would like you to come up with 5 specific questions/problems you are having with your final project (particularly in relation to how much progress you’ve made to this point). Type them up and post them to your blog. Make sure you have this done by the start of class on Wednesday 4/22/09. These questions will be used to provide you feedback as you continue to work on your final project.
I think this project is valuable because it puts our work that we have done for this class into perspective. It really shows how we understood the project and how we may use this later on after graduation. Demonstrating my literacy is valuable to me because this is what I see myself doing after college and if this is something I am passionate in then I should do whatever I can do make me better at this literacy. The reflection aspect will allow me to sit back and think about what is being done and may help other readers or my audience better understand the assignment.
1. For my final project I am going to focus on _communication as a peer educator_ literacy because: This is something that I value not only as a student but as a person too. I believe having this on my resume will make me stand out from all the rest and will help me succeed as a scholar.
2. This is a literacy because: Communication to me is the biggest and most important litercy to have. Without communication you can no longer speak to anyone or write. You may be able to read to yourself and understand yourself but without communicating with others, your literacy will fail.
3. Explain how you use/practice/demonstrate this literacy right now in your life right now (in other words, what role does the literacy in question one play in your life)? Communication is something that we encounter everyday, whether you are speaking with teachers, friends, family, or others you will be communicating. I am communicating right now through this blog because when I publish this someone will then read what I have to say and register it. This is the process of communicating with sending and recieving a message.
4. Explain how this literacy might be used by others in their personal lives. Explain how this literacy might be used by others in their professional lives. Communication or presenting can be used to give presentations to fellow peers or even to your boss. Presentations in the work force can happen everyday. I know my dad and brother have conference calls daily and to me this is a type of presentation you may have to present your work to the higher level person.
6. How do you plan to demonstrate your literacy? I plan to demonstrate this literacy by getting myself video taped while giving a presentation to a class room. This will show the skills I have in presenting and will also show the importance of communication.
7. What questions do you have about this project? I do not have questions right now, but I am sure I will in the future.
8. Create a chronological list of the steps you will need to take to complete this project. Then, set a time-line of when each step will be completed. This will be a tentative contract between you and me to assure you’re making progress on this project.
I realize now that I have taken this class that I am a literate person. I always thought of myself as non literate because I hated reading books, but come to find out I love reading text messages, magazines, and other topics that interest me. I also love communicating, thus I am an Interpersonal Communications major. I also love writing. This just came to me this past week when my niece passed away, but I wrote a poem to her and read it at the funeral. After the funeral everyone came up to me and told me how beautiful it was (they may have just been being nice), but one lady wants me to send her the poem so that she can send it into Chicken Soup for the Soul books.
I am a literate person.
What do I want to include in my reflective introduction to my portfolio? I want to include why I was writing these projects and the reasons why the topics were important to me.
When placing my portfolio on the blog, I would like to have the organization of the three units and then placing the two projects under those units. This will give the reader a nice organized look to the portfolio and easy to follow. I want the reader to first see the blog and then the essays.
I want my pages to look professional and easy to follow. I do not want people to have to idea what is going on or where to go next.
I may want to include a video, but I think that may be too much work for the ending of the year. I probably will just write a paper introducing myself.
I am hvaing trouble with finding what job I actually want to apply for. I was looking for a summer job this past month and found something that I really want to do for the rest of my life. It is exactly what I want, but they do not work in the summers because they work with schools around the areas, and schools are not in session around summer.
I found another job that I would like to apply for, but they are looking for full time and I am not too sure I want to work there. I was really looking forward to it and then I found they are working through a church group, and I have never really been religous. I come from a family background of a Jewish father and Prodistant Mother, therefore we celebrated both christmas and chanukah. I can not really say what religion I am because I follow both.
I think once this problem of picking a job is over I will be able to flow right through this assignment.
The most important thing to me is that the job is offered in Toledo. I am a very family oriented person and my family is all located in Swanton. We also have a cottage in Michigan that we all go to on the weekends therefore finding a job near town is something that is most important to me.
I am a peer eduactor for BGSU which allows me to help college students with issues such as; body image, sexual assault, safer sex, STI’s, and drugs and alcohol. Therefore my ad is right up my ally because my job ad is Residential Treatment for Youth Adults Direct Care. This ad calls for strong, confident staff who have the capacity to physically deal with youth who are experiencing an emotional crises.
I am also a communications major which gives me the opportunities to be able to communicate effectively with other people. I know how to work with people and am able to get resources to help.
The company seems to value young adults, and leadership.
Key words: skills to verbally de-escalte a crisis and use mature judgment with a young adult who is out of control. Leadership skills, milieu management skills, high energy levels, self discipline, reliability and dedication.
Resume’s are a place you can put all of your skills and experience in order to get a job someday. You tend to make resumes for interveiws or make them to place somewhere for an organization or job to look at and hire you. ITs where you get to sell yourself and be proud of who and what you are.
Resume’s include; skills, education, objectives,references (maybe), and anything that you think will better your chances of getting that job.
I am still in the process of writing my essay because I have been away for a family issue. But I can tell you what I think I am doing well and what is not working for me right now. I think that my body paragraphs will be pretty strong and my introduction will be flowing but not as strong as the other paragraphs. I have good standing thesis and it describes everything that I will be talking about in the essay. I hope to hand it in on Friday (lets hope that everything goes well with my niece).
