Deep and Flat Space: An Example

So Deep and Flat Visual Space are very important. The way a shot is composed can help tell a lot about the scene. Last weekend my group and I for the 48, Odeon Productions, shot a short film and used it greatly to help accentuate feelings in the scene.

An Example here shows a Flat Space. Jacob is laying on the bed in a rut in his life. The lack of perspective lines helps tell you its flat space. It is meant to show how closed off he is to the world.

A good example of deep space comes later in the short. Jacob has just been left alone in the street, left to his own awful decisions. He’s isolated, shown by the long depth and perspective lines. He is in the center, with no other people, showing how alone he is.
