It juts into the [[Foxe Basin]] past Longstaff Bluff. [[Prince Charles Island]] lies to the south.

It is named in honor of the [[Scotland|Scottish]] explorer and glaciologist Colonel [[Patrick Douglas Baird]] (1913-1984).
