Starmen.Net, a site created for EarthBound fans, has been around since 1998, when it started out as EarthBound.Net (more on that below). Since then, the site has grown in leaps and bounds, pulling off stunts and achieving goals that most people would never expect a group of kids to be able to do, especially a bunch of kids whose only connection is the internet and a weird video game. They now also have a lot of information on the game’s sequel, Mother 3.

History
Starmen.Net, which was originally called EarthBound.Net, was started in February 1999 by Tomato (Clyde Mandelin) and reidman (Reid Young). Basically it was created to be a large, central EarthBound site to help raise the level of quality of EarthBound-related content on the Internet.

Since EarthBound.Net/Starmen.Net’s creation, many new EarthBound fans have appeared, many new, good EarthBound homepages have been created, and a strong community of EarthBound fans has been formed.

In the gaming world
Starmen.Net has organized three different petitions in the past. Each time, their staff has created, programmed, collected, checked, filtered, printed, bound, and shipped thousands of signatures right to Nintendo’s doorsteps. The Mother 3 petition actually had about 1,200 handwritten signatures, if that gives you any idea of how serious EarthBound fans are about this stuff.

A mention came from Shigeru Miyamoto, a man popularly considered to be the father of modern video gaming:

‘You might not know this, but there was a petition in the US, a ‘Please make Mother 3’ petition and it got about 30,000 signatures! After that, we thought ‘Wow… Earthbound fans are really solid.’
-Shigeru Miyamoto

Today, the people at Starmen.net are working on translating EarthBound’s japan-only sequel, Mother 3, into English.
