”’Alexander Joel”’ (* [[1971]] in [[London]]) is a pianist and conductor.

He was aised in Vienna, where he also studied piano and composition.

He began his conducting career in [[Kärnten]], but soon moved to the [[Deutsche Oper am Rhein]], where he has held the position of Chief Conductor (1. [[Kapellmeister]]) since 2001.

He has served with success as a guest [[conductor]] in many cities in [[Germany]], including with the [[Bavarian State Opera]] ([[Bayerische Staatsoper]]), with the [[Semper Opera]] [[Dresden]], the [[MDR-Sinfonieorchester]], and the [[Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin]]. In 2008 he will make his debut with the [[Hamburg State Opera]] ([[Hamburgische Staatsoper]]). Internationally he has had success with engagements at the [[Vienna Volksoper]], the [[Teatro Reggio]] in [[Parma]], [[Italy]], the [[National Opera Helsinki]], [[Finland]], the National Theater in Chile, the [[Théâtre des Champs-Élysées]] ([[Paris]]), and the Radio Symphony Orchestra of Vienna.

Since the 2007/2008 season he has been the General Music Director of the [[Staatstheater Braunschweig]] and Principal Conductor of the [[Staatsorchester Braunschweig]], succeeding [[Jonas Alber]], who led the orchestra from 1997 to the end of the 2006/2007 season.

Alexander Joel is the half brother of singer/songwriter [[Billy Joel]].
