Happy Ohio Native Plant Month! As the meadows and woods are teeming with blossoming wildflowers, we kindly invite you to attend our webinar “Honoring Our Plants” (open link to zoom here). In the webinar we will learn about the meanings and uses of the plants present in St. John’s Woods/Wintergarden Nature Preserve. Understanding our plants lead us to honor their gift with our care and responsible use.

Participants:

• Dani Tippmann, Plant Tradition Bearer of the Myaamia Nation, and director of the Whitey County Historical Museum. Dani is well regarded for her role in maintaining and spreading the ancestral knowledge about plants of the Miami. She collaborated in the Myaamia Ethnobotanical Database prepared by the Myaamia Center of Miami University, and the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. Dani will introduce us to different plants present in this region that are important in the worldview and everyday life of the Miami.
• Cinda Stutzman, Naturalist of Bowling Green City Parks and Recreation. She leads education programs for all ages and overviews the care of the Wintergarden Nature Preserve’s ecosystems. Cinda will talk about the efforts to reintroduce native species in the Wintergarden Nature Preserve.
• Chris Gajowicz, Natural Resources Coordinator of Bowling Green City Parks and Recreation. Chris has led the incorporation of new areas to the nature preserve and other parks in the city and county. Chris will provide insight on the history and different behind some of the plants in our nature preserve.
• And you: the presenters will answer your questions and comments.

This event is part of the programming of Stories in the Woods, an interpretive trail organized by Bowling Green State University’s Public History Program, and the City of Bowling Green’s Parks and Recreation Division, with the support of Ohio Humanities.
