Communication – Assistant Professor – Qualitative
Position Announcement
APPOINTMENT: August 2010.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have research experience and expertise in qualitative research methodologies; experience in using and/or teaching the techniques of interviews, focus groups, and participant observation; and the ability to teach in one of the following areas: communication theories, organizational communication, or persuasion. The candidate must also have experience teaching at the college/university level and the ability to design coursework for the curricular needs of the department. The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate teaching excellence and articulate a research program. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in the Communication discipline to be hired at the Assistant Professor rank. An ABD candidate will be considered at the Instructor rank with the understanding that the terminal degree must be completed within one year of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Research or teaching interests in information and communication technologies/emerging technologies.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department of Communication seeks an individual to teach qualitative research methodologies in a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor or Instructor in Communication. The individual hired will teach undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate will also engage in scholarly/professional activities and provide service. The faculty member will be located on the Macomb campus and may be asked to teach long-distance learning classes to the WIU-Quad Cities campus via the university’s CODEC system. Teaching responsibilities will include qualitative research methodologies; the teaching load is 3/3.

THE DEPARTMENT:The successful candidate will join a Department of Communication faculty of 20 and approximately 500 undergraduate and 20 graduate (master’s level) students at the Macomb campus. The department is one of the largest departments in the University. We continue to grow into a vibrant, diverse community where research is nurtured and curriculum development is expanding.
