2008 Awards for Excellence
Louisa Ha, Raphael Okigbo and Primus Igboaka’s article titled, “Knowledge creation and dissemination in Sub-Saharan Africa,” published in Management Decision in 2008 has been chosen for a Special Commendation for Research of value to the developing world at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2009. Every year Emerald invites each journal’s Editorial Team to nominate what they believe has been that title’s Outstanding Paper and up to three Highly Commended Papers from the previous 12 months. The award winning papers are chosen following consultation amongst the journal’s Editorial Team, many of whom are eminent academics or managers. Your paper has been selected as it was one of the most impressive pieces of work the team has seen throughout 2008.

Oliver Boyd-Barrett: Invitations
Oliver Boyd-Barrett is invited by the News Agency of Catalonia (ACN), Spain, to publish an edited volume on the future of national and regional news agencies, in recognition of the tenth anniversary of this predominantly internet news agency, covering the most prosperous region of Spain. The book will be published by EADOP (Generalitat de Catalunya).
Oliver Boyd-Barrett is invited Keynote Speaker at the Conference on Communication Technologies and Social Change, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in March.
Oliver Boyd-Barrett is invited to offer a video-conference presentation to graduate students of the International Communication program at UNITEC, in Auckland, New Zealand in April.
Oliver Boyd-Barrett and Srinivas Melkote are invited by the Assistant Direct General of Communication and Information, UNESCO, to proceed with a suitable collaborative arrangement with an African partner to be identified among UNESCO-designated Potential Centres of Excellence in Journalism.
Dr. Ha attendee for Competitive Summit
Dr. Louisa Ha will attend an invitation-only Competitive TV Summit by Broadcasting and Cable Magazine with 36 TV, industry leaders on the future of TV business in Orlando, Florida, March 4-5. She is one of two invited academic attendees of the summit.
Dr. Park’s paper ranked 1st in Conference
Telecommunications Professor Dr. Sung-Yeon Park received first place for her paper in the Intergroup Communication Interest Group of the International Communication Association 2009 Conference in Chicago last May.
Her paper, “Explicating Mediated Intergroup Contact: A synthesis of the intergroup contact theory and media stereotype research,” came from her Peace Conference presentation last Fall.
