Boettcher, Judith V. “Background”. July 1998.CREN.11 April 2009. [http://vccslitonline.cc.va.us/using

                Web/bckgrnd.htm]

This source identifies the three major theories in education and the theorists behind them. It goes into great details like Zone of Proximal Development and climate for environment. This also identifies ways to apply the concepts of the theories to what the reader may need. I really liked this source because it can give me some great details for my project and also allows me to construct a list of alternatives to literature assignments. It will help immensely when it comes to writing down all of this in the long run.

Brewster, Cori and Fagar, Jennifer. “Increasing Student Engagement and Motivation: From Time on Task

                to Homework”. October 2000. NWREL.11 April 2009.[http://www.nwrel.org/request/oct00/text

                only.html#motivate]

“Increasing Student Engagement and  . . . “ is all about offering strategies and tips for student success. Along with focusing on student engagement and motivation, it breaks it down in to two different categories, making them more of a narrow topic that can be worked with instead of a broad, large topic. That made it easier to read through since motivation and engagement are such large topics. I can really use this source. It provides me with multiple options to use this, and gives me some details that I may not find in the other sources. Having the topic broken down into two parts allows for someone to break it down in to the different levels that I may need for the change project.

Davis, Barbara Gross. “Motivating Students”. September 1999. Tools for Teaching. 11 April 2009.

“Motivating Students” is a source that offers general classroom strategies to use for motivation. It emphasizes encouraging students instead of encouraging grades. It is a great source to use for the change project since it does provide me with ways to emphasize comprehension and engagement in students where there is none. It also gives me some good guiding questions in reference to reading that can also be used to create alternatives for literature text assignments that are used now. I believe that this will be a very useful source for me to use, and I look forward to digging even deeper into the contents.

“Student Motivation Quotes”.2008.Motivational Learning Skills, Inc. 11 April 2009.

This source is an excerpt from an eBook of inspirational quotes for struggling students. They are to inspire motivation in students, to get them engaged in their own learning. They can be displayed on the front board to inspire motivation in the students to get their work finished, and with school in general. This offers a different way to motivate students than just telling them they can do something. That works too, but this is someone who is famous telling them that it can be done, someone they can look up to as a role model. This can be used to use quotes from people that are relatable to students.

“Teacher Tips: How to Become a Master Motivator in the Classroom”2008. Motivational Learning

                Skills, Inc.11 April 2009. [http://student-motivation.com/teachertips.html]

“Teacher Tips” states that the single most important part of being a teacher is motivating

Students to learn. It also says that motivation not only affects how functional a classroom is but hinges

on student personality and emotions. The students have different lives outside of the classroom and

they do bring that into the classroom. This source does offer up a numerous amount of tips but one

specifically says to offer up incentives as a start. But also it says that incentives should not turn into

bribes. I think that this will be very useful when it comes to motivation and trying to put together a

survey for the students.

Well done, Reema. You’ve found what read as really dynamic and helpful sources for your project. Any ideas for what you might use for your sixth source? An interview, perhaps, with a practicing teacher whose approach you admire? I might be misremembering, but have you contacted the teacher with whom you are currently working now?
    Keep up the good work.
