Making Friends by Rebecca

Making friends can be a challenge in a new place. College seems like a perfect place to make friends, but sometimes it isn’t as easy at is seems. I’ve learned this the hard way. The first few weeks, I hung out almost exclusively with my roommate, and this has led to my current dilemma.

Both of us were together all the time and I got used to being comfortable just hanging out with her. Lately, she has been going out with other people which is perfectly fine, because she can do whatever she wants, really. I, on the other hand, have not been hanging out with other people as much and at first I felt a little left out because my roommate is going out without me. I’ve had a hard time adjusting to that. Luckily I’ve found some other people in a similar position.

At first, I sat in my room alone because I didn’t want to reach out to people, which I have learned is absolute worst thing to do in that situation. In the past few days, I have spent more time talking to other people and doing things with them. Also, this Friday I will be going to Friday Night Lights, which is a group of students who goes around and turns off lights in buildings so that the lights aren’t on all weekend. I’m hoping it will help me meet new people who aren’t living in my hall. I’ll keep you all updated!

Till next time,

Rebecca
