Chapter 6 has been the most interesting to me so far. This chapter talked about things such as sex in SL, love, friendship, language, and family. The section that stuck out to me the most was the section on sexuality. From being in this class we have all already seen the presence of sex and sexuality. We’ve seen the strip clubs, the naked bodies, the porn shops and stores etc. so we knew that it existed. One thing that stood out to me was the idea that people wanted to have sex in SL, undisturbed, according to the book. How do you accomplish this? THis is the internet, a tool open to the WHOLE WORLD! 

ANother thing that i thought was interesting, although im not shocked about is the fact that because SL is private (in the sense you can play any role and unless you choose to tell, no one knows who you really are in real life) people use SL to explore and do new things. IE sexual practices. But heres what i don’t understand. Ok you use Sl to ‘experiment’ but being lesbian or BI in Sl, for example, is NOTHNG like being in the real world. What you experience in SL as far as how people react to you and the situation, is NOT going to be the same in the Real world, so how are you doing something beneficial to your real life by experimenting  in SL?

 

Child Play-Having sex with kids, or child like avatars in SL! Are you kidding me?! SL takes things to far for my  liking, there should be some things that arent even possible to do, such as have sex with kids. The one thing i did like was that they mentioned ‘ in some jurisdictions, even simulated sex with minors could be a crime”  Being in SL does in this case have connection to the real world. This is one of the only places where i see that.

 

Addiction- most consider being addicted to be spending too much time in SL.  but i agree with the books definition, addiction is when you spend too much time in this case on SL that it takes away from things you need to do or should be doing in your real life. The example they gave, you need to rack your REAL lawn, but dont because your on second life!
