Video Guide: Video blur and identity concealment

This guide will cover three possible situations in Sections A, B, and C that require something in a video to be blurred out. This is listed in order of complexity and each additional section builds upon steps in the previous one. So, if you need the results described in Section C, you must first complete Sections A & B. Section D covers exporting the final product out of Shotcut as a video file that can be saved to your computer.

Video Guide: Trim & compress video on a Windows 10 computer

This guide assumes:

  • the video is in one of these formats: mov, mp4, m4v or mkv.
  • the file containing the video is located on the Windows computer or some storage device connected to the computer (memory card, USB flash drive, etc.) and NOT on a network drive or cloud storage (OneDrive, DropBox, etc.).
  • the raw video will play back correctly without any errors or issues. If the video doesn’t play correctly (computer says a codec is missing, video plays with audio but only shows a black screen, etc.), stop and first try to optimize the video in PowerPoint, switching to a different computer to complete this process, or using your phone to edit & trim the video.
  • you know the start and end times for the final trimmed version of the video.
  • you are aware of any file data size requirement or restriction required by the project (not to be confused with a time requirement or restriction).
  • you are using a Windows 10 computer with PowerPoint and Photo applications installed.

  • the file containing the video is located on the Mac computer or some storage device connected to the computer (memory card, USB flash drive, etc.) and NOT on a network drive or cloud storage (OneDrive, DropBox, etc.).
  • the video will playback correctly without any errors or issues on the computer.
  • you know the start and end times for the final trimmed version of the video.
  • you are aware of any file size requirement or limitation associated with the project. (not to be confused with a time requirement or restriction).
  • you are using a Mac computer with Quicktime installed.

NEW GEAR: document camera & visual presenter – Elmo MX-P2

For several years, the TRC has circulated portable Elmo document cameras to EDHD and teacher education faculty and students. They have been used for hundreds of classes and presentations on campus and all over the world because they are convenient to use, very compact, reliable and produce a good image. We just purchased 8 new models that support 4K video and provide both HDMI and USB connections. They are ready to circulate today.
