I would like to start our by stating that I found “The Nature of Rhetoric” to be a very interesting article. Retoric is the study of reading and writing as a means of persausion. It broke down how we use language as a took to communicate and persuade one another. It explains personal rhetoric and how we as at a young age create a persona. This persona changes according to our enviroments and what we learn works when convincing people to get what we want. It then breaks down how we devolop these styles and why have to change according to enviroment if we would like to be sucessful. These five arts are invention, arrangment, style, memory, and delivery. It then goes on to explain different forms of discourse and the proffesional world in which they belong too. It is imperative to understand rhetoric in order to effectively write and communicate your needs.
The second reading was called “Thinking and Reading Citically”. This article was about why it is important to read critically and how thinking critically can help you to write a more successful paper. When we examine our own writing critically we can begin to look at our strengths and weaknesses in the article. In other words where we have become less factual and more oppinioned or perhaps just strayed off of topic losing sight of our objective. It also explains how sources may not be as effective as we think and we should be selective when choosing sources. Annotating, summarizing, and outlines are all effective tools to help us organize our papers. Using these techniques will help us to write more organized and effective paper.
