The etymology of my name is dependent on its origin. The Hebrew meaning of “Mark” is, polite and shining. The Latin meaning of “Mark” is, warlike. The name “Mark” is closely related to the roman god of war known as “Marcus”. I would assume that this roman god influenced the meaning behind my name. I don’t dislike the Hebrew meaning of my name, however I am not to fond of the Latin meaning. I like to think of myself as a peaceful and laid back guy. I do voice my opinions, but I try to do so in a professional manner not in a disrespectful way. I like to learn about other peoples opinions and beliefs so that I can understand our society better. I am called different names in different situations. My parents were the ones who named me. My name was chosen from one of the disciples in the bible. There is not shortened name for “Mark” that I know of. However, my friends think I look like an actor and so do a lot of my co-workers. They often call me Matt Damon, which oddly enough I have learned to respond to. I try to actually have fun with the nickname when I am out introducing new people to our group. So in a less professional or serious atmosphere I am often called another name. I would never want to change my name because it is my identity. It is what people know me by and it is how my accomplishments are remembered. I am proud of my family name and our heritage.
