Image Analysis
The first photo comes from lensculture.com. I have always been drawn to blues as they are calming to me. There is definitely a power behind them that draws
the eye. Something about the ocean or the sky reminds me of the summer and relaxing. This photograph is particular has a very dream-like quality to it. The tree’s small and curved trunk, especially in the water’s reflection, makes it feel whimsical. The red in both the dress and balloon stand out among all of the blue and draw the eye. Although the girl looks older, the photograph gives her a youthful quality because of the dress and balloon, which forwards the feel of a dream.
The second photograph, also from lensculture.com and photographer Cig Harvey, stood out to me as soon as I saw it. Yes, the color contrast between the sky and the lit house draws the eye, but my connection with this photograph goes deeper. Just looking as this photo brings back memories of my childhood. My mother and I used to sleep outside in sleeping bags during the summer and stargaze. The warm light coming from the house feels as inviting as my old home and the times that were spent there. The night sky feels as comforting as the light when I remember my childhood.
This photo is taken from jillgreenberg.com. The photograph, similar to the second, also evokes a feeling of family. I tend to favor photography that I can relate to. The warm yellow tone and light in the photo reminds me of hiking with my sisters and playing outside as a kid.
The photograph of the young girl is one of my favorites. The green background allows both the girl and her eyes to stand out. I love the focus on her as well as the ground she is standing on. Because her face is surrounded by the unfocused background, this allows her expression to become the focal point of the photo. She has a very innocent and trusting face. When I look at this photograph, all I can think is adorable!
For my fifth and final photo, I chose to analyze one that is definitely not one of my favorites. In fact, when I first saw it, I quickly scrolled down the page to avoid having to look at it. It is no secret that I’m not a fan of the color pink; however, I can deal with it. I think this photo would give me a stomach ache if I didn’t feel like I just got a large dose of Pepto-Bismol. This photo is just too much. Too much pink, too much posing, too much everything. Fran’s laugh, pose, and billowing hair look entirely too forced and the photo is too staged (even for an obviously staged photo).
