Audience : People interested on how the Internet affects the brain.
Summaries : In the article, “Does the Internet Make You Smarter?” published in The Wall Street Journal on June 4, 2010, Clay Shirky found that technology is growing and the Internet will in face make people smarter. Distributing research with the help of the Internet made research possible, according to Shirky. He also says the Internet is where the future beings; good ideas will help the world survive in the future.
The Internet distracts people according to Nicholas Carr in his article “Does the Internet Make You Dumber?”. He claims that focus is the key to success and the Internet does not help that at all. The Internet causes people to have broken concentration which causes the people to forget pieces of information, according to Carr
Carr wrote about many studies supporting the fact students retain more without the Internet to distract them. He states that students who multitasking are not really multitasking at all. He continues that the students only focus on one thing at a time. He argues that books help focus while the Internet scatters the brain.
Thesis : Shirky and Carr have different views on how the Internet affects peoples’ brains.
