At this point, we are finished with our filming. We have written out the script and I feel that it has gone really well so far. We only had to film it over about 4 or 5 times. I also do not think we have to edit anything. While I was really nervous to get it finished, I think the final product will be really good!

I think that a computer is an important tool to have in school because it allows students to have so many sources for furthering their konwledge. There are so many programs that someone can put on their computer to help a child learn, and there are also so many different websites that are out there to help students learn as well. I think that not only can a computer help students learn, but it also makes everything a lot easier once the kids learn how to use all the different aspects of a computer. It makes things such as communitcation go a lot fast as well.

I believe that a computer is an important tool to have in school because it allows students to have so many sources for furthering their konwledge. It could be a tool that your own child uses. There are so many programs that someone can put on their computer to help your child learn, and there are also so many different websites that are out there to help your child learn as well. I think that not only can a computer help students learn, but it also makes everything a lot easier once the kids learn how to use all the different aspects of a computer. It makes things such as communitcation go a lot fast as well. It also can help them learn about technology and all of the different aspects that are within technology too. I think that a computer would be a great tool for learning in school and could possibly help your own kids a lot.

The actors portray the message by spreading the picture around the school and gossiping about it. The girl that is in the picture is extremely embarrassed and her ripping it down her picture from the board. There really are not any words being spoken throughout the commercial thought.

The embarrassment of the girl and the gossiping and surprised students are persuasive in the sense that it makes you not want topost anything online because it shows what might happen in your own school.

The voiceover is powerful at the end; however it only says a few words. While they are powerful, I still think that the message it delivered could have been even stronger.

Text is only used at the end to state the organization and the ending message about who might see your picture online. While it is not used a lot, I think that it still gets the message across.

I found the statistics about 17-year-olds being about to read to be very interesting and a little sad. As a 21 year old, I cannot imagine not being able to read and understand something like a local newpaper. The health and literacy statistic about 31% of asthma patients at the third grade reading level is crazy. I also think the inmate statistic is not completely surprising to me. I don’t really know why, I guess when I think of people that break the law, I think of not being very smart. I know that that doesn’t mean that all inmates are under this statistic  but as an overall statistic, I think it is sad.

I think the biggest role technology plays for the general public is proabably cell phones. I don’t know how the world would function without them. I know that some people still to this day do not own one, but when I think back to how we all communicated before cell phones… I really don’t know! I think that as a form of communication, they are wonderful! I also think that e-mail has been a huge technology item that the general public uses. When I think of certain offices and practices e-mailing certain things for people to read over and articles being sent for things like a newspapers to be edited, I realize how much easier technology has made the general publics life. Even as students, our lives have been made easier via e-mail and cell phones. Things like computers as a whole… word documents, power points… etc. have been made so much easier for us students. It helps as far as literacy goes because most of the time, it still has to do with reading and writing… just in a faster and easier way. Overall, I think that technology has had a huge impact on everyone!

2/16 Peer Review

Posted on February 16th, 2009 in Uncategorized by lpate

In the past, when I would do peer workshops, sometimes they have worked and sometimes they have been a waste of time. I think it depends on the teacher and the class itself for whether it will work or not. I like getting feed back on my paper but honestly it is hard to take what certain students say to heart because there are some students that might read my paper that I feel I am a better writer than. So while I like getting other peoples ideas and comments, I also am not a huge fan of it because some people are not good writers and can be commenting on things that they really aren’t all that sure about. I think that I like sending my paper to the writing center and seeing what the more professional people have to say about it.

2/13 Monster Blog

Today I drew a monster in class. He really just looked like a scary person when I was done. His skin was green, and he was wearing a red shirt with a pair of blue pants. He had angry eyebrows and a scary mouth. His head was bigger than his actual body. When I think about… this really isn’t what I picture a monster to be so I am not totally sure where this came from in my head.

Homework 2/11

I decided to use Pathos. I feel like I am always finding an emotional connection to things in my life. To me, that is what pathos is, an emotional connection. I believe that when pathos is involved, someone is trying to get the audiences emotional side. They are trying to connect with the audience on an emotional level. I also think that this can often be done and people are completely unaware of it too. Pathos is basically hitting on the different emotions a person can have.

I found a commercial on youtube.com about saving animals. It is really sad when you watch it (especially if you are an animal lover like me!)

The link is:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gspElv1yvc&feature=related

I read Frederick Douglass’ personal narrative. There is a lot of emotions for the audience to experience when reading it. The quote I am using is, “It was a grand achievement, and I prized it highly”. This is where he understands why white owners do not want black slaves to read. He is proud of himself here and it shows in his writing. As a reader, you can feel his pride and sense of accomplishment in this sentence. I think that it falls under pathos very well.
