2/4 What is a narrative?

To me a narrative is a way of telling a story that happened. It can be from your perspective, and it can include: your thoughts, feelings, opinions etc. A narrative doesn’t have to be from your perspective though, unless it is a personal narrative. A narrative is created in a constructive format (written, spoken, poetry, prose, images, or even song) that describes a sequence of real or made up events. A narrative tells a story. For me, reading or writing a narrative is always a little bit of a challenge. I usually don’t know where to begin or what I really want to say. If it is a personal narrative, I usually do not enjoy reading them aloud because it is personal and I worry sometimes what people will think.

Lauren I really like what you’re saying about narratives and for the most part I agree with your statements. I think that it’s interesting that you noted how a narrative can be made up, based upon real events. You would be amazed to see how many narratives are thought to be real but are actually are made up. Don’t worry about being nervous or what other people think we are all in the same boat together and try to think about something you would be happy to share with the class.

I think your description of what a narrative is sounds really good. You included alot of things that I forgot, such as the fact that narratves are not only based off real events, but can be made up as well. I can defininetly relate to the idea of personal narratives being challenging, because there is so much you could say. I also agree that I wouldn’t want to share a personal narrative either…that’s why it’s called a PERSONAL narrative!
