Video Viewing Area updated with new equipments, second video room coming soon

October 16th, 2010

The original video viewing area has been updated with new equipments. Instead of the old CRT TV, the room now has a projector, a fixed frame screen and Sony 2.1 sound system. The secondary video viewing area (the group study area) now have a 60 inch rear projection TV, a multi-region VHS player and a 5-disk DVD player. A new video room is coming soon, which will have an LCD TV, an HD sound system, and an HD webcam for video conferencing. Depending on next year’s budget, the new video room may be further developed into a netbook computer lab that can serve as a fully functioning language classroom.

Problem with Audacity on LLC computers

October 16th, 2010

Audacity on a few of the LLC computers were having problems with temporary files during the last two weeks. The problem has been reported to ITS and should be fixed early next week. We will monitor those few computers and notify users as soon as Audacity comes back to normal on them.

LLC, the Movie!

March 18th, 2009

The LLC is currently working on putting together a fast paced, low budget movie to use for marketing online and among high schools.  We are looking for pictures and/or videos of BGSU language students?

What exactly are we looking for?  Activities that show BGSU language students interacting and having fun!!

For example:

  • Class activities
  • Club activities
  • Movie showings (pictures of the crowd/audience)
  • Learning Communities (e.g. La Maison Française)

If you have videos and/or pictures already, or if you are interested in getting some for your activities, please contact the coordinator, Amber Kent at adkenne@bgsu.edu.

Also, we are looking for volunteers to allow the staff to document scheduled LLC time.  We’re especially interested in classes using Webquests, Audacity, iMovie, or other technology.

We look forward to hearing from those who can help out!

Keep your eyes and ears open for a completed movie coming this Summer!

We’re on Facebook!

The next time you are on facebook, make sure to become a fan of the Language Learning Center.  We are hoping to get 500 fans!  Can you help us achieve that goal?

New Server Has Gone Live!

January 30th, 2009

For those of you who regularly use the LLC Audio files at http://llc.bgsu.edu, you might have noticed some problems over the last few weeks being able to access certain files.  That is because our main server drive was failing.

Working together with ITS, we decided not to replace the old, failing G4 machine, but rather to join ITS’s campus server.  This server is larger, faster, and much more stable (due to its extensive back up measures) and is online NOW!

We have found some great ideas online of what to do with the old G4 though! 🙂

New Headphones!

January 17th, 2009

The individual workstations in the back portion of the LLC just got all new headphones!

You will notice that these headphones a bit bigger and heavier duty, which means they should be sturdier and we should have less problems with the microphone boom breaking.

The ear pieces are also bigger, and go around the ears.  This should help reduce the noise of your neighbors when you are working in the lab.

Also, these headphones are capable of hardware play through, which means that you will now be able to hear yourself as you are recording in Audacity.  All of the stations will be set up to play through by default.  If it is not working that way, or if you would prefer not to hear yourself, just ask a staff member to check/change the settings for you.
