Chapter 9 Reflection

Chapter 9 is all about virtual worlds. The chapter discusses the overlap and individuality of virtual and real worlds. The author discusses how virtual worlds are social realms in their own right. He discusses a concept called dubbing culture which is a metaphor drawn from dubbing films. A foreign film can be dubbed in one’s native language. While the lips never match up they are virtually matched up. This means in SL that people are aware of RL situations but can understand RL situations in the SL world. They overlap and situations in both realms can be understood in the opposing realm. The author also said “VIrtual worlds don’t simulate anything but instead approximate aspects of reality enough for the purpose of immersion.” This means virtual worlds are reflections of RL interactions.
