Chapter 7 reflection
Chapter 7’s focus is on community. Boellstorff talks about how a virtual world can’t exist without community. A virtual world needs more than one inhabitant. Without socialization between avatars then it is just like a simulation. It is like playing The Sims by yourself. Sure you can create things and control your avatar, but what makes it a virtual world is the interactivity between people. No business is RL or SL can survive without customers and no friendship in RL or SL can exist without someone being there. SL is very reliant on the concept of community to carry out the basic elements of the virtual world.
