Summary of “America’s Sleep-Deprived Teens”

20 Jan

This essay shows the importance sleep plays on a teens life, and what little importance teens put on sleep. Adolescence is the time for “developmental growth- academically, emotionally, and physically” (484).  Only 20% of adolescents get the recommended 8.5 to 9.25 hours of sleep per night (483,486). In addition to getting enough sleep, the quality of sleep us just as important. We can improve that by relaxing before bed and avoiding stimulants. Lastly, the  parents need to realize their role in their child’s sleep habits and set a good example.
