Essay 2 Pre-Writing

23 Sep

The topic I chose was the argument of whether or not extracurricular activities are an important part of a child’s life. I feel like this is a good choice for me because I feel as though I know a lot of points I want to make already about the benefits, but also have solid counterargument. I can also research a lot of statistics and facts about the topic to help me clearly state my opinion. I also feel that now that I am in college and out of high school I see just how important they can be. I feel that this issue is close to me because I was not part of many things, and I regret that, so if I can inform and persuade others to join it would be great! I also feel that though this may not be a hot button issue, that it is very important to parents and maybe even students.

1. My purpose is to persuade parents to see the importance of extracurricular activities and sports, and look past the time and money commitment.

2. Extracurricular activities are key to a child’s life for many reasons including, landing future jobs, having a sense of belonging and team, and also staying fit and healthy.

I. Extracurricular activities have many benefits that is is worth your time and money to invest in your children.

II. I feel that being involved will help kids to realize their potential, but also to stay healthy.

III. Having these activities on someone’s resume will help them stand out to future employers.

Being active in sports will keep your kids healthy and in shape.

Being on any sort of organization, team, or club will help you kid have a sense of team as well as belonging.

IV. It is a big money and time commitment from you as a parent.

My Favorite Piece of Literature Reflection

14 Sep

My partner and I both liked two different pieces, but we talked about them and saw them from each other’s point of view. She really liked poetry. Poetry has a lot of wonderful and unique qualities that could be very good to put into a future paper. However, my favorite novel is The Diary of Anne Frank.

One of the aspect I like most about this novel is the factual side of it. This book has a intriguing factual story about what it was like living through the Holocaust.  I like the way it plays on your emotions on how real all of the things that happened in that time period were. I think it is a good way to grab the readers attention and truly hold it through out the entire novel.

There is another aspect of this novel that is truly my favorite. The format of the book is set up in this fashion. It starts as a normal story, giving the reader some background information and also introducing the main characters. However, it then goes switches to letters, or pages from her diary rather. I absolutely love this because I feel as though it really brings you into the story and makes you feel like you are there going through this horrific thing with Anne Frank. By using these letters or diary pages you can be very detailed as to what is happening around her, which can really enhance the story. I was already drawn in during the introduction, but after the first diary entry, I could not put the book down until I was finished! 🙂
