Reflection

I learned a good deal in this class. I came in knowing quite a bit about film history, criticism, and different styles and techniques, however I knew very little about the technical aspect of actually making and shooting a film. I had very limited experience with video cameras beforehand, but thanks to this class I learned how to operate them, tricks to use, and got experience shooting actual shorts. Additionally my editing skills have really improved. I’d never used AfterEffects before, and though I can’t say I’m proficient in the program I’m at least familiar with it now and can accomplish basic tasks on it. Also, while I’d used video editing software before I’m much more comfortable with it now due to this class and feel it doesn’t take me nearly as long to edit projects.I don’t know that I’d call myself a filmmaker, but because of this class and working on the 48 Hour Film Fest I know have a much firmer grasp on how to make a good film and the kind of work that goes into it. I also have a few projects now, which I didn’t before. Before taking this class I had very loose ideas about what type of career I want in the film/television industry, if any. Now, I’m fairly confident I don’t want to be an editor, director, camera operator, or cinematographer. In fact, I think I’m more interested in producing, working as a script supervisor, or doing PR for a show/film.
