LGBT Student Journalism Project

Each year, the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) puts together a Student Project to coincide with our annual Journalism Convention – this year held in San Francisco, CA to celebrate our 20th Anniversary. More information on the project can be found with the attached or on the web at www.nlgja.org/.

Students participating in the 2010 Student Project will work with media professionals to report, edit, photograph, design and produce the news of NLGJA’s National Convention and host city while furthering their own interest in ensuring fair and accurate coverage of the LGBT community.

During the course of the program, members of the Student Project class will work with mentors from the journalism industry and interact with top LGBT media professionals from across the United States.

Nike Field Reporter

Nike is currently seeking the next Nike Field Reporter and we’re combing universities across the nation in search of the ideal candidate.

The NFR is a sports enthusiast’s dream job; a roving correspondent who’ll hang with world’s top athletes, artists, musicians and designers and report back to Nike Women across the globe. She’ll jet set across the country, attending sporting events, experiencing the latest fashion and workout trends ready to document her findings with videos, photos and blog postings.

The contest to find the next NFR starts April 1st. The winning girl will be put on an 8-month contract with Nike and will have access to the highest profile athletes, events and celebrities. We have huge plans for the coming year, and whoever is selected will emerge from this experience with a resume and a reel that will put them head and shoulders above the rest as they leave school and enter this highly competitive job market.

Sylvania Advantage Internship Positions

Sylvania Advantage is a twice-monthly tabloid-size publication ranging from 24 to 32 pages depending on advertising space sold. The publication features articles and press releases submitted pertaining to the Sylvania and Sylvania Township area. Different sections in the publication include: Community Events; Community News: Social News; Business News: School and Sports News: and Community Affairs.

I would encourage expanding the scope of the pub to include additional feature, sports, school and government-related articles.

Positions available could range between four to 10 hours per week and include writers for general stories including the above or writers with specific task assignments such as covering Sylvania City Council and Sylvania Township meetings. Sylvania Advantage pays $25 per story.

Summer PR Internship Opportunity in Cleveland

I wanted to reach out to you and let you know about a great internship opportunity we have available for the summer. Our company is Allied Integrated Marketing and we are a full service publicity/promotions agency that primarily works with all the major motion picture studios (Universal, Paramount, 20th Century Fox, etc) to promote their movies across the country.

What this would entail would be distributing passes to advanced screenings of the movies, attending and working the advanced screenings, plan movie related events on and off campus and overall promoting our films.

Marketing/PR internship opportunity for fall 2010

The Center for Innovative Food Technology (CIFT) is a developer and provider of technical innovations and solutions for the food processing, agribusiness and agricultural sectors of the economy in our region, our state and beyond. These innovations and solutions are developed in order to enhance the economic performance of the food processing and agricultural sectors.

The marketing and communications department at CIFT will hire one interested student for a non-paid internship during the fall 2010 (September through December) term. The following areas will be some of the responsibilities:

1) Write/edit content for printed materials including flyers, newsletters, brochures, advertisements, speaker bios, signage, etc.
2) Assist in maintaining large online database of contacts.
3) Event planning.
4) Organize and maintain news clippings and photo file (scan newspapers, websites to clip/photocopy articles pertaining to CIFT and/or the industry in general); Maintain news binders and filing system for easy access to CIFT employees; Create monthly media/advertising reports.
5) Research and evaluate potential marketing opportunities for CIFT.
6) Assist in maintaining timely website content.
7) Ensuring media list remains up to date.
8) Create media kits for CIFT events.
9) Assist marketing and communications department in various projects.
10) Perform other duties as directed (greeting guests at main desk, answering phones, handling mailings, organize mail, etc.).

Reporter opening at Review Times

The Review Times, a newspaper published six days per week in Fostoria, OH, is currently seeking a full-time reporter to join its staff in June. This person will be responsible for covering city government, which includes Fostoria city council, finance committee and several administrative offices. A typical workweek is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, although some evening work will be required (including on Fridays). In addition to covering the city government beat, this reporter would also write a variety of feature and general assignment articles, take photographs, proof pages and help type news releases/obituaries. Versatility in the newsroom and attention to detail is a must. Pay starts at $10.50/hour. Benefits offered after a 90-day probationary period. The program is based out of New York University’s Ghana campus and students get to report using the whole country as the coverage area.
