Washington, D.C., Internships

Juniors and seniors studying print, online, broadcast and photo journalism are invited to apply for a semester-long reporting internship in Washington.

Semester in Washington pays a stipend and provides free housing in furnished apartments.

Interns report for the web-based Scripps Howard Foundation Wire and may also report for campus, hometown or other news organizations. Interns work with an experienced Washington editor to choose, report, write and edit multimedia stories using social media, blogs, videos and slideshows. Tours of Washington journalism and government institutions and guest speakers are part of the program.

Fall 2013 (Sept. 4 to Dec. 10) Stipend $2,660, plus free housing. Application deadline postmark: March 15, 2013

To apply, visit: http://shfwire.com/node/5464.

The foundation supports an intern who reports for the Hispanic Link News Service. The term, application deadline, pay and housing are the same. Students may apply to both programs. Download the Hispanic Link application form  here: http://shfwire.com/node/6889

I’m an editor with Speak Up (www.speakup.com.br), Brazil’s longest running English language magazine. It covers general interest and entertainment news mostly, includes vocabulary glossaries and is read by Brazilians trying to study English.

I want to give the kids at BGSU the chance to contribute freelance stories to Speak Up. They would work directly with me as an editor, and I’d help them develop their own story ideas that meet our demographic, or would pitch them topics we want written about.
