Internship for KSDK, NewsChannel Five in St. Louis

KSDK, NewsChannel Five in St. Louis, is looking for interns. We actively search
for interns throughout the year. Currently we are recruiting for the next two
semesters: summer and fall, 2011.
We highly encourage each intern to make a total commitment to the experience
and stay through the conclusion of that semester’s program. Hours vary,
according to a student’s obligations, but we believe the more exposure the better.
Our maximum schedule is 30 hours a week, including an hour break daily.
Our internship program offers more than most. Each intern contributes
significantly to the product. Assignments are task driven. They include research
and participation in sports, in special projects, our website, ksdk.com, the
assignment desk, and community relations. We also place interns in our daily
magazine show, “Show Me St. Louis.”
Additionally, time is given to observation, so that an intern may concentrate on
the area which interests that student most.
We believe an intern should be put on the right path for a career, so we also try
to help prepare students for the job market. Since the program was established
in 1985, we have helped to nurture and coach more than 800 interns. Many are
happily employed in the business.
If this sounds like something you would like a student to consider, please have
the student submit these documents to me:
1. A letter explaining why the student would like to be a KSDK intern.
2. An official college transcript sent directly to me.
3. A resume.
4. Three broadcast writing samples. If those are unavailable, I will take a sample
from print or a research paper from a journalism class.
5. A letter of recommendation from a broadcast professional.
An intern must receive academic credit and must furnish a letter from a faculty
advisor explaining how credit will be arranged after the student is accepted.
Students should have completed at least one year in college.
If anyone is interested, please ask the student to complete the materials and call
me for an appointment. I encourage each student to attend one of the group
interviews.
The deadline for submitting materials and attending an interview is April 1.
This is an unpaid internship, but we do offer a chance to work in one of the most
exciting network affiliates in the country, in a corporation that leads the nation in
newsgathering and its commitment to its community and employees.
Internship interviews for the semester will be held at KSDK, 1000 Market Street.
Each is at 3pm.
Interviews are March 3,10,17,24 and 31 –
