It’s the only National Wildlife Refuge in Ohio. It’s home to the only federally designated wilderness in the Buckeye state – the largest heron rookery in the US Great Lakes. And it’s right next door to the state wildlife management area recently designated by USA Today as the best place in North America to watch birds during spring migration.
Refuge staff manages more than 10,000 acres of wildlife habitat along the southwestern shore of Lake Erie between Toledo and Cleveland. They operate a large and modern visitor center on State Route 2 – open every day.
We haven’t been telling our stories – but we have lots of them. Stories about dedicated staff and volunteers, the drama of endangered plants and animals, and the thrill of scientific discovery outdoors.
We need help, and we’re asking your Public Relations and Journalism Department students and faculty to consider collaborating with us to develop and place our stories in the traditional media and on the internet.
