The Richard A. Maxwell Project is a forum for students to learn sports writing, reporting, broadcasting, announcing, public relations, media relations, communication management and production. Through the project, housed in the Watt Center, students and faculty will have the have the opportunity to participate in a sport media watch, in which they will analyze and critique local, regional, and national media coverage of sport.
The Maxwell Project is made possible by the efforts of Mr. Maxwell, recently retired Senior Director of Broadcasting for the National Football League and Bowling Green State University alumnus.
Experience to be gained from the project:
- Sport Media Watch (critically analyze sport media coverage)
- Community/Media athlete relations (work with athletes on improving relationships with reporters and community groups).
- Sport writing techniques (learn skills in sports writing, reporting, broadcasting and public relations).
- Speaker series (learn from professionals who have been out in the field).
- Press conferences (practice asking coaches, speakers and athletes questions in a press conference setting).
Students wanting to take part in the Maxwell Project should have an interest in sport media coverage and must fill out an application.
