Interns can work with experienced professionals involved in all aspects of radio, from promotion to audience research to news, music and entertainment programming. Not all areas require broadcasting experience; journalism skills are usually necessary. Qualifications and responsibilities vary by internship.
News and programming internships are offered in the following areas or with these shows/sites: All Songs Considered, All Things Considered, arts and information, digital news, digital media, Intern Edition, library, Morning Edition, national desk, Planet Money, science desk, Talk of the Nation, Tell Me More with Michel Martin, Washington desk, Weekend Edition, news desk, social media, Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!
Interns work between 20 and 40 hours a week during an 8- to 10-week internship period. Internships are offered during the summer, fall and winter/spring semesters. Summer internships are paid; all others are unpaid. Selected students are offered a travel scholarship. Interns may receive academic credit.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be undergraduate students or graduate students within 12 months of beginning their internship.
Deadlines:
Summer: Feb. 15; Fall: July 15; Winter/Spring: Nov. 15.
