Texts:
To be announced.

Course Mission/Purpose:
The purpose of this course is to experiment with various types of writing, to explore and discipline personal creativity, and to develop a clear writing voice.

Writing assignments:
There will be a number of worksheets throughout the semester. Pieces which show potential will be included in the weekly worksheet. Work which is sloppy in grammar and mechanics or is poorly proofread will not be accepted. All work must be
computer printed. Student are expected to write both poetry and prose for the worksheets.

Possible prose assignments:
Some kinds of writing we have done in the past include stories derived from selected folk motifs, monosyllabic stories and narratives, objective point of view, as well as standard stories. Poetic experimentation includes working in fixed forms as well as open (free) form. If there is a strong interest among three or more students, they may experiment in writing collaborative one-act plays. Our attempt will be to work on concrete imagery and limit abstractions.
